Movie Info

Taking his cue from Hitchcock's Rear Window, John Carpenter wrote and directed the made-for-television nailbiter Someone Is Watching Me! Lauren Hutton stars as a young woman plied with phone calls, gifts, and cryptic written messages from an unknown admirer. Events take a sinister turn when it becomes clear that Hutton is being spied upon. David Birney and Adrienne Barbeau (later Mrs. John Carpenter) portray Hutton's ubiquitously helpful best friends. As in the best of Carpenter's theatrical films, the heroine is no helpless trembler but a strong, resourceful young woman fully able to fend off tormenter when the time comes.more

Audience Reviews for Someone Is Watching Me

Not one of John Carpenter's best moments but for a late 70's TV movie it's better than most. It's biggest weak point is the killer's reveal which once you see him you find yourself wondering who the hell he was.

Super Reviewer

A John Carpenter TV movie that has a lot of suspense but not a lot going on. At least you get some Barbeau and Seinfeld's Uncle Leo playing a peeping Tom.

Rodney Eckrich

This obscure relatively unknown thriller by John Carpenter is pretty good actually. Originally made for television in the late 70s (around the same time as Carpenter made "Halloween"), this thriller is like the opposite of "Rear Window"...what if you are the one being watched? Carpenter handles the material well, and the film is engaging from beginning to end. It's creepy, has some genuine scares, and nice mystery plot. I think this was only released theatrically overseas, and I think it is a well-made flick that shouldn't be as forgotten as it seems to be.
