In the sparkling comedy SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE directed by Nancy Meyers (WHAT WOMEN WANT), divorced, successful playwright Erica Barry (Diane Keaton) has given up on finding a fulfilling romantic relationship. When her beautiful young daughter Marin (Amanda Peet) visits the family's Hamptons home with her aging, lothario boyfriend Harry Sanborn (Jack Nicholson), Erica's plight as a mature, single woman comes into stark focus. Harry exclusively dates young women, which infuriates Erica. Though initially they repel each other, things change when Harry has a heart attack and Erica comes to his aid. The two make peace and discover a smoldering attraction to one another. However, love never comes without complications. Harry still has a romantic obligation to Marin, and Erica gets a taste of Harry's lifestyle when the sexy young doctor Julian (Keanu Reeves) hits on her. Whether Erica and Harry can reconcile their differences provides the premise for an elegant, touching, and amusing tale. In their first movie together since REDS, Keaton and Nicholson share natural chemistry, each giving powerful and moving performances under Meyers' expert direction. [More]

Reviews for Something's Gotta Give
Nancy Meyers' film all but shouts 'Older women are sexy too!' -- and while that's a point well taken, it's taken repeatedly.
Doesn't America's 50-and-fabulous set deserve better than a movie this superficial and pandering?
Something's Gotta Give works because of the magnetism of its two stars and the chemistry they generate.
... a frothy, formulaic romantic comedy redeemed by its incandescent leading players, Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton.
Short of a full-tilt doctoral dissertation, you may never get a better deconstruction of the mystique of Jack Nicholson.
Am I the only one who’s tired of seeing Jack Nicholson doing his best Jack Nicholson impersonation?
For a comedy that's supposed to be about sex and love, it's amazingly tender and astute about the former and almost downright clunky about the latter.
A romance comedy of the type favoured by writer-director Nancy Meyers, who, from her script for Private Benjamin to her remakes of Father of the Bride, has never met a laugh she couldn't reduce to a formula.
Creative ending or not, the comedy is sharp and the writing is swift.
The cast members stand around begging -- pleading on their knees -- for sharp, punchy, funny dialogue to deliver like only they can. They never get it.
December-December romance between Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson is a funny and warm look at just how scary love can be.
Jack will always be a force of nature with a Cheshire cat grin. But this time, he is eclipsed by the incredible lightness of Keaton.
With plenty of funny and feel-goody moments, the movie is a love story for an age group often overlooked by Hollywood -- although it has wide appeal. And that's something worth falling for.
