Critic Review - Associated Press

Coppola is brilliant at capturing mood: With cinematographer Harris Savides, her languid camera depicts California melancholy. But substance isn't her game.

Substance is never Coppola's game. All of her films are self indulgent , minimalist films, where here simplicity is supposedly meaningful. There's just nothing there to chew on,except a bunch of emotional clap trap from time to time, as though we are supposed to care. Her films remind me of poor student films I have seen, only they cost millions to make. She is not a talented director.

Tell that to her Oscar, nominations, Golden Lion, and four positively-reviewed (MC) films. All from low-budget indie films, save for Marie-Antoinette.
