I am surprised this one was made so recently. I liked the opening credits with the animated pink panther brought to life to direct an a cappella performance of his theme song. Unfortunately from there it is just an excuse to milk the franchise for a few more dollars, while the laughs have become very strained. It's also an excuse to bring back the older generation of Lom, Cardinale, and Kwouk. Benigni is explained ridiculously as the son of Jacques Clouseau. So he has a funny Italian accent instead of a funny French accent. He bumbles and stumbles and spouts off Shakespeare and other poets, you know the usual Benigni type humor. Davi is not too bad as a bad guy. And Farentino is quite pretty though often drugged into a stupor as the damsel in distress. The plot is not important in the least and that just makes it all the more sad.

Ten years after Peter Sellers died, Blake Edwards feels the need to make another sequel that is both tactless and unfunny.

Benigni is simply fantastic!

Blake Edwards ends his Pink Panther series, and his career, with "Son of the Pink Panther. While Benigni is better than both Alan Arkin and Ted Wass in the lead role...he is still no Sellers. He appears as the illegitimate son of Clouseau and Maria Gambrelli from "A Shot in the Dark". I would put this film above Trail and Curse for sure, but it is still weak...as the series had just worn itself out entirely after Sellers passed away. Unfortunately I don't think Edwards could let a decade go by without a Panther film (sadly the studios couldn't seem to either). Not really worth recommending, unless you are a huge fan of Benigni or the Pink Panther series.

The son of the pink panther is not funny, not good, and just plain stupid. the jokes are outdated and the cast stinks.

A wonderful film. This is not Peter Sellers, and if the film had been made as a one off, it would have not been slated by the critics, who know nothing.

Nothing is to be said about this movie, except for the fact that it is the purest of trash, and that this travesty should never have been made.

Blake Edwards' final directorial effort in the Pink Panther saga does not prove that it was ever worth continuint after the death of Peter Sellers; it is not only the lack of his person on screen, but also the lack of inspiration that his presence must have brought in the production of the film that is severely lacking. Benigni cannot be blamed for a film that was destined to be terrible before production had ever started.

Terrible. RIP Peter Sellers.

[coughs] Sucked. Comedies are supposed to make you laugh. I did once. 2 seconds don't a movie make. skip this.

Blake, what the hell happened? You used to deliver such great comedies, and you end your directing career with this god-awful movie? Such a shame!!!

No wonder Roberto Benigni was called the worst rising star of 1993. What was set in motion in that very year, is a film, that should have never been made.

For Edwards and others, this was an attempt to run the bank. All he had to do is to brand this film as a 'Panther' and set the production on auto-pilot(go ahead, just pull the heart out of it...). Perhaps if he cared for the movie a little, it could have been something more. Instead what we get is a collection of lame gags executed by a mis-cast Italian star.

Expect tired, watered-down iterations of material done better by Sellers. Direction and production makes this film look like 1983.

Not the best but it has its momets. Maybe I only say this because Im a huge Panther fan.

Begnini tries. God knows he tries. But that is just not enough to fill in the gaps of a bad script.

poor direction is what makes this not a pink panther movie.

Peter Sellers is greatly missed, but taken on its own terms, this is still a very funny movie.

Obviously shouldn't have been made, never-the-less this movie is as good as it could have been. Decent performance by all, but Sellers is sorely missed.
