The critic knows it's based on a true story. She was trying to say that in the movie it seems too sweet and happy to represent the true story which probably wasn't as sweet as the movie.

I double checked everything, all those things were indeed true. Now the whole "love story" part definitely put a lot of sugar-coating but though the story may seem too sweet for, it is indeed all true
