"South Park" Guys to Go Live-Action -- Twice
by Scott Weinberg | August 22, 2006
Discuss Article
Trey Parker and Matt Stone, best known as the creators of "South Park," have signed an interesting new deal with Paramount that will allow the chuckle-makers to mount two new live-action flicks: One called "My All-American" and the other one entitled "Giant Monsters Attack Japan!"

From Variety: "Parker and Stone, who have re-christened their Par-based shingle Important Pictures, will first make the Jeff Roda-scripted high school comedy "My All-American." They plan to follow with "Giant Monsters Attack Japan!," a film scripted by J.F. Lawton ("Under Siege") that will combine live-action with the "rubber suit" techniques made popular in Asian imports like "Godzilla." Parker will direct each film and Stone produce; both will work on the scripts with the writers."

Parker & Stone's previous non-South Park movies include "Orgazmo," "Baseketball," and "Cannibal! The Musical."

Let't not forget their wicked little segment in Bowling for Columbine.

Actually, they had nothing to do with that animated segment. Michael Moore just juxtaposed his interview with Matt Stone with that segment to make it seem as though Parker and Stone created it. This is most likely why they savage Moore in "Team America."

Finally!
I love "Orgazmo" and "Baseketball." But "Baseketball" gets such a bad rap I actually end up championing that one far more often. There are so many great lines and scenes that I think people just miss. Regardless, I've been waiting since that movie for these guys to come back to the screen in human form. I would love a "South Park"or "Team America" sequel as much as maybe any other movie, but these guys doing live action again almost felt like more of an impossible concept, so I am that much more excited to see that is the course they will be taking the next few times out... as long as they are the ones writing it.

I'm wary of this high-school comedy, but I doubt Matt and Trey would sell out. I hope not.

However, Giant Monsters attack Japan sounds like it could be hilarious. I love these guys, so here's hoping both of these are amazing.

They've stated a few times that they won't do another puppet movie. Apparently it was a HUGE headache.

"Giant Monsters Attack Japan" is the best film title since "Snakes on a Plane." How could it not be hilarious?
