Movie Info

Laff-fest sensation and parody queen Anna Faris (of the Scary Movie series) appears vis--vis Laura Breckenridge and Justin Chambers in Southern Belles, written and directed by Paul S. Myers and Brennan Shroff. Faris and Breckenridge play Belle and Bell, two trailer-trash Georgian zeroes. Desperate for adventure, and craving a move to urban Atlanta sprawl, the women hatch a nutty get-rich-quick scheme. Their plans appear poised to succeed -- until one of the girls threatens to upturn everything by falling for a policeman named Rhett Butler. Frederick Weller and Heather Goldenhersh co-star in this guffaw-a-minute farce, an official selection at the 2005 Atlanta Film Festival.more

A goofy, dumb, grating lightweight comedy that's crying out to be a TV sitcom.

Funnier than just about 75% of the really expensive Hollywood yukfests, plus it's clearly conceived with just as much heart as goofball irreverence.

Audience Reviews for Southern Belles

Slightly disappointing. Funny in parts, flat in others, it's really down to a more jaded than usual performance from Anna Faris that it didn't totally fail. While the ending was a bit underwhelming and left me wanting to know a bit more of what had happened, the "two years later" documentary on the dvd was ridiculous and spoiled the film!

A campy look at Southern stereotypes which might offend those that take it too seriously. Not side-splitting humor, but should generate some chuckles of familiarity.

I liked it. I'd seen this on cable in 2006, but not the first 1/2 hour or so. Laura Breckenridge, as Bell, is adorable and acted very well. Her smile alone helped make this film enjoyable. It's not easy using one's facial expressions to carry a scene. This was the first film I'd seen Anna Faris in, and as Belle, she is funny, quirky, and independent. Seems some Southerner's here take this silly indie comedy much too seriously. It is a comedy, people.
