Hiroyuki Sanada Mediates Wachowskis' Speed Racer Vision
by Fred Topel | August 22, 2007
Discuss Article

After menacing Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in Rush Hour 3, Hiroyuki Sanada will play another villain in a big budget action movie: the Wachowski brothers' live action Speed Racer movie.

"Evil again," Sanada mused about his role. "Kind of bad guy but serious businessman. He manages the whole racing industry. Money, money, money."

Shooting on mostly green screen, Sanada had to navigate the two brothers' sometimes differing visions. "They are so funny, both of them have their own view. We're going to try a lot of ways, a lot of approach for each scene. Andy says something, Larry says something, and mixed together ourselves, and then find out the best way. Both of them say okay, they ask me, 'Are you happy?' Done, go on."

At least with the Wachowskis' new camera systems, the actors can see their work immediately. "It's amazing. They have big, big monitors on set and checking every shot. High quality, modern, so clear and beautiful."

300 wasn't supposed to look realistic but they still could've made it look more interesting.
