"Spider-Man 3" Reactions Starting to Come In

Summary

A prickly one again for me: There's a brand-new "spy review" of "Spider-Man 3" over at AICN, but since I refuse to read extensive opinions about a movie until I see it for myself, I'll just have to point you in the right direction and say "The spy really liked it." Back to Article

Wow, I'm going to be first in line. This sequel is no-doubt more voilent and darker in tone than both previous ones. The Second Spiderman movie was a benchmark in excellent and mature comics-cinema--- and Spiderman 3 tops even that. It's gotta be the most perfect comics-movie to-date!

"I refuse to read extensive opinions about a movie until I see it for myself"

So did you take a job working at Rotten Tomatoes just to be ironic?

I don't want to set my hopes as high as thinking it will be the best of the three, but I'm sure I'll like it and can hardly wait for it's arrival.

First Last

We all know Spiderman 2 was better than Spiderman. If Spiderman 3 turns out to be just as good , I think Raimi should go back and tweak the first one to be on par with the sequels.

Don't assume things. I hated the second one, and the only reason I don't completely hate the first is because of Willem DaFoe.

Lay off, he was just making a general statement. Those that dislike the Spiderman movies are in the minority for sure.

That's good news, I suppose. Who knows though. It's possible those two "spies" also liked Catwoman. So I will take this with a load of salt. But I personally don't think this one looks any good, and I liked the first two and am still a fan of the comics.

We seem to be on the right track for a spidey 4 so far

Looks like Venom's appearance amounts to not much more than a cameo.

Trilogy curse broken?
Ummmm......that curse was broken a while ago.

Have they not seen LoTR: RoTK?

Granted, that was designed to be a trilogy LONG before it came to the big screen, but it was still probably the best trilogy ever made.

I honestly doubt spidey could beat LoTR. But I expect to be VERY entertained nonetheless. :)

Star Wars disqualifies itself. The original three were good, but then Episodes I, II, and III ruined all that. ;)

Episode III is a perfect example of rising past it's predesessors. I and II were terrible...III plays with the big boys, perfect example...

Am I the only one who thinks that Venom looks a bit wimpy? His face looks awesome, but I always remember Venom being this huge muscled up monster, and from what I've seen in the flick he simply looks like a black-suit-Spiderman with teeth.

I really don't like the idea of Sandman killing Uncle Ben. Maybe that's how it is in the comic I don't know I don't really read comics, but that storyline belongs to the first one, it just feels like a cheap way of getting another villian in the film with 'gravity'.

Who knows though, maybe it will best the other two films and rock my face off. We'll all know in a couple weeks time!

1) I think Venom looks wimpy too, which is a bummer. I like the changes to his costume, but not his size. It's one of the reason's he is such a good villain.
2) I don't think they'll keep Sandman being the real killer of Uncle Ben. It would invalidate the reason he became Spiderman. I bet it is some sort of misunderstanding or something. It wasn't how it was in the comics either, just so you know.
3) I still think Episode III was lame, especially compaired to The Empire Strikes Back. ;)

Here, here big brother! And it was story, character and humor that allowed those movies to survive the test of time, not remarkable visuals soley. We'll see about SPIDEY 3.

Exactly, Star Wars AND Indiana Jones (which it still boggles my mind that a lot of people are willing to write off Indy IV so quickly) were fantastic blends of story and visuals that are almost unmatched in film making. LOTR's is close as a trilogy and maybe Aliens or Die Hard are somewhere in the same galaxy. It's this blend that has made them timeless classics and will make the first two Singer directed X-men memorable long after people have forgotten Ratner's action packed, but oddly unentertaining and hollow third verse. Seriously, I can't believe this many people prefer X3 to the first two installments, but to each his own I guess.

Part 1 and 2 made me fall asleep, so I doubt part 3 will be a hit in my book... I guess I'm the only one who thinks most recent superhero movies are as thin as cardboard when it comes to acting and story. Hellboy, Batman Begins and [gasp] Hulk excepted.

The 3 movie curse applies to Comic Book movies. Though Return of the King broke the curse of part 3s in general, comic book movies have long had horrible part 3s followed up by abismal part 4s. Note: Superman 3&4, Batman 3&4, Xmen 3, what do they have in common? They suck.

Return of the Jedi was the least of the original Star Wars by the way, but you only compare Star Wars to Star Wars. Compared to Superman 3, Return of the Jedi was the greatest story ever told.
