Why would you even mention Hobgoblin? Of course there's no Hobgoblin for Harry, Hobgoblin is completely different from the Osbornes. How many times do we have to tell you people? But I am a little annoyed that Harry isn't supposed to be Green Goblin though. Raimi, don't let us down now. It seems like every third movie is sucking so please make this the best in the series

Ultimate Spider-Man. Harry's the Hobgoblin there.

Thank you, and goodnight.

For one, im not sure if Harry is actually the Hobgoblin. I don't remember and i'll check back with you on that.

And for two, even if he is it's ULTIMATE Spider-Man. Ultimate Spider-Man is not in the main Spider-Man canon. All Ultimate Spider-Man is (along with Ultimate Fantastic Four and X-men) is a re-telling and re-imagined version of the old smider-man tales with different twists and such.

I mean, if we want to go by Ultimate Spider-Man, then he should start dating Shadowcat/Kitty Pride in the 3rd film.

maybe Raimi meant that Harry won't have the same crappy costume his father had and that makes him a "new kind of Goblin," or simply a Green Goblin that just looks different from Norman's Goblin.

I agree. The look of the Green Goblin was a joke. They'll make Harry's better/different looking. I'm assuming Hobgoblin will not be part of this series so as long as Harry is any kind of Goblin at all, I'm sure everyone will be able to connect the dots, despite what color he is.

Eh. Not sure how I feel about this. I'm not a big Venom fan, but I suppose he could be done well. I'm just not sure that having a thousand villains running around in one movie qualifies as "done well."

That confirms my fears. Sam Raimi, as a Venom-hater, doesn't understand the character and his relationship to Peter Parker.

To those who think Raimi doesn't understand Venom
If you actually read any news about the movie, you would know that Sam Raimi is no longer a Venom hater, it's actually his new favorite character. All you crybabies who are angry at the fact that this isn't pulled directly from the original Spider Man need to give it a rest! Do you even realize how many spider-man stories there are?! Raimi hasn't hurt the story in any way. Venom has been a symbiote to a small Eddie Brock, a Large Eddie Brock, and an Eddie Brock with cancer! Let's stop crying and look at the films and trailers for what they really are... 2hr movie adaptions of over 50 years of story.

I think that the there will be 2 main villains that fight against Spiderman and the remaining villain will be the threat "introduced" (meaning show his power) near the end of the movie to go into the 4th installment. I think that should make it a very interesting move. If that's the case, I'm sure that Sandman will be without a doubt one of the first two villains. I'm sure he will be fought and defeated. The last villain could either be Harry or Venom. But I think that it might be like this:

Since the Harry character has already been established, the "Harry" situation will be resolved while the Venom story is developing in the background to become a bigger threat in the 4th installment. I've heard that the Venom story is very complex, this is a good solution for his storyline. This makes sense because you mostly see Spiderman with the black suit and at the very end of the movie could end with "black Venom juice seeping into Eddie Brock on all fours as he transforms into Venom." (that sounds a little....) which heads off into the next movie as his archnemesis. If this movie does not do well with 2 main villains, for the 4th installment, they could just concentrate on the Venom character and be back to one primary villain. Also, I think they should end the Harry issue to a rest soon because it'll get old if it still continues in the 4th installment.

prehaps venom will appear at the end of movie 3 and be a villian in several films, hindering parker in his life and as he battles other villains like rino or vulture (gets them out the way and makes it more of a challenge) and then in, say... movie 8 he starts the final showdown and carnage is introduced and venom and spidey must team up and carnage and possibly venom will be killed off

Green Goblin and Doc Ock were a great start to the series, and Sandman continues in that vein. But Venom? Please. The twenty-somethings have enough marketed toward them. Where's the Vulture? The Lizard? Electro?
C,mon, where's the shout-out to the real Spidey fans?

Can I ask why people don't like Venom? I would think he'd be the favorite villian. Maybe I'm missing something, I can't wait for this movie.

I hated the Venom character, too. Probably not for the same reasons as Sam Raimi but hating Venom is a good thing, right? I mean I do root for Spider-Man/Peter Parker 100%. Always.

Everyone stop complaining...it's Sam Raimi. He spins yarn into gold. The Venom storyline of course isn't going to follow the comic storyline, but neither has GG, Doc Ock, or anyone else for that matter, yet we all love and adore the other two flicks.

Carnage, on the other hand, would be something completely different...

Oh, and villain #4 is Mysterio, played by Bruce Campbell. "Hail to the King, Spidey"

Mysterio has enjoyed some fame in the books, but as a big screen pick he's a mistake. I can't imagine what they'd do with him to make him more threatening than Goblin or Octavius. I would have gone with Vulture.

Is id definetely Mysterio though? I haven't heard anything confirming who the fourth villain is.
Mysterio is alright, just a special effects stravaganza. Nothing really special, I can't imagine really great fight scenes with that character though.
And for anyone complaining where the villains are for the 'real' spidey fans, go back and watch the first two movies. Those BOTH had the older villains. Maybe it is time for something a little more fresh and dark. The first two were awesome, but I like where this one is heading.

why VENOM!!!

There's a very simple reason why Venom has been chosen to highlight this 3rd movie. Besides being a very interesting story, the writers have already used 2 archvillains for Spidey. Where are you gonna go after Goblin and Oct? The Shocker? Kraven? Even Mysterio is pretty small potatoes compared to these guys.

Venom Goblin and Oct are Spidey's toughest villians. It's common sense to keep the level of conflict on an upward slant. Personally, I would have started with someone like Vulture and end with Goblin though. He's the worst.

my rant on spiderman 3
*deep breath*

personally i think venom is a very interesting character, particularly because of how deeply tied to peter/spiderman venom is. whether or not venom was the prefered choice to use in the next film is, of course, debateable. i'm sure they could have chosen plenty of other characters and still manage to pull off a good film. in my opinion, it seems like a logical step in attempt to outdo the last films. the special effects shots alone should be interesting enough to see the film.

my only concern is about how well they are going to fit all of the plot into the film: they have set up the film to address the mary jane plotline, plus now the addition of gwen stacy, PLUS the harry osborn (whether as the green goblin or not) vs peter parker/spiderman plotline, PLUS the plot with new villian sandman, PLUS the quite in depth plotline involved with the symbiote on peter then moving to eddie brock creating venom, PLUS now the villain mysterio (which, yes, has been confirmed).

i have no issues with any of these plotlines individually (well, maybe the mysterio plot... that alone could turn out to be just cheezy, in my opinion), but putting them all together in a 2 hour film is likely to create a mess and/or leave out large plot holes. the venom/symbiote story alone could be told into two separate films. originally i thought only part of the venom story would be told in this film, but now it seems they have put a sizeable chuck of the venom story into it, not to mention 2 or 3 other villians?

if i were to have it my way, the third film would address the symbiote/venom storyline along with what they have set up from the previous films with harry and the green goblin story. that, to me, would see like enough plot to carry the film. perhaps they could choose to include gwen stacy too and that could still not complicate the matters much. however, it seems as though in attempt to surely top the last two films, they chose to add another villain, sandman. sandman, i think, is a perfectly fine, if not wonderful choice, but combined with venom, harry, gwen stacy, and mj, just seems to get messy.

as far as mysterio is concerned, though i don't know much about the character or his history, from what i know, i don't take the character very seriously or much of a threat to spiderman. with that said, i don't see a problem with having him as a villain in a spiderman film (especially with f'n bruce campbell playing him), but as long as he were to be a side villain, not something to carry an entire movie. of course, since now there are four villains (sandman, harry/green goblin possibly?, venom, and mysterio), i couldn't imagine mysterio playing any more than a minor part in the film---maybe something of a cameo perhaps. however, even the addition of mysterio just seems an unnecessary addition to an already overfilled movie.

with all of that said, i'm very much looking forward to the film and seeing how they put it together and if they can pull it off. if not for that, then just for the pure geek experience of seeing live action comic book heroes.

oh, and ps: yes, harry was only the hobgoblin in ultimate spiderman, not the orginal spiderman universe. in the tradition spiderman universe, harry took up the green goblin persona after his father.

oh, by the way, anyone know where i can see the clips they showed at comic con? i know it was floating around the internet for awhile, but i never got to see it before i heard it was taken down. i know people paid good money to get to see that and waited a long time, and usually i wouldn't care too much about it but... it's got a clip of venom! pleeeeaasssee, someone? anyone? please if anyone know of anywhere i could find a clip of the it or at least the part with venom, or even just a picture of venom (besides the one they have on the official site), please let me know. i'm salivating just thinking about it.

Are you people seriously arguing for the Vulture? Rhino? Venom at leasts adds something to Spider-Man as a character. Many of his "classic" characters are just common thugs with very little character development on both their part and on the part of Spider-Man. Scorpion? The dude's been relgated to ultra C list, and only became a bigger player when he, of all things, gained the venom suit. Contrary to popular belief, not everything in the "classic" comics is good. If that were true, we'd see Superman slapping around a bunch of Japanese and German people all the time.

Mysterio as the "fourth villan" would likely be done in a "Spider-Man doing his day job context." Defeated within like the first ten minutes of the film. Which is where characters like him, Rhino (the guy's big and strong, how in the hell would that make a good idea for a movie), Vulture, and Scorpion belong.

Venom
I have to address some of the issues brought up in this forum. 1 is the fact that Venom is not shown in the movie until the last 10 minutes. Venom is not a major villain in this movie. He will, however, be a major villain in the fourth movie. This movie is a set-up for the fourth. The main villain in this movie is Sandman. Which for those of you who are saying that Venom is chosen just to satisfy the 20-somethings. Sandman is a pretty old villain. So is Doctor Octopus, and Green Goblin. Venom was brought in because the costume and the villain create a great level of complexity in Peter Parker's life. Peter with the black symbiote became darker and more aggressive than normal. Venom like the Green Goblin knows that Peter Parker is Spiderman. What is more Venom will not set off Spiderman's spider-sense. Venom is more dangerous to Parker and those he cares about because he can strike without him ever knowing it.

I believe that Mysterio will not be a full villain in this movie. They are just beginning to introduce him right now. The only two major villains are Sandman and Harry. Harry, may not be called Goblin, so that they don't confuse the general audience. Which is huge ladies and gentlemen. This is not a movie just for comic goers. This is a movie for everyone. By calling him the Green Goblin it would probably confuse people. The studio is out to make money. And if not calling him the Green Goblin is what is needed so be it. Just as long as they don't call him the Hobgoblin, I am happy. Besides who knows maybe he will eventually call himself the Green Goblin. Maybe when he uses the serum on himself he may than call himself the Green Goblin and before hand he is just Harry stealing his dad's suit.
