Spider-Man 4 Still Needs a Screenwriter
Koepp's Spidey sense not tingling.
This is just a tidbit of an item, but if you've been waiting with bated breath to find out who will be scripting the inevitable Spider-Man 4, it's an important one. Well, actually, we still don't know who'll be writing it -- but IGN Movies is reporting on who won't be.
Recent reports have placed original Spider-Man screenwriter David Koepp in talks to pen the series' fourth installment, but sources are now saying that Koepp doesn't have time for the project, as he's already slated to direct the Ricky Gervais/Greg Kinnear project Ghost Town. This can be seen as something of a setback, especially after Sam Raimi recently went on record as being open to direct the right Spidey script, but it may end up helping force Sony's hand sooner than later -- without ready commitments from the trilogy's director and stars, the studio may just opt to clean the slate and start over with a cheaper cast and crew.

on Aug 08 2007 10:58 AM Remember Alvin Sargent wrote an excellent screenplay for Part 2. Although given credit in Part 3, Sargent's work was obviously tossed aside by the Raimi brothers who killed any and all character development. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Aug 08 2007 12:58 PM There really wasn't much tonal difference between any of the Spider-Man films-- they were remarkably consistent with each other (and it's Spider-Man, folks-- not Spiderman). If you're going to make any criticisms about Spider-Man 3 being childish, you should be making those same criticisms about all 3 films. I'm thinking the people making these complaints are teenagers who were 10-12 when the first movie came out and are 15 now, and are viewing the recent release with slightly different eyes and expectations than they viewed the previous 2 films. on Aug 08 2007 01:31 PM Hmmm, this will be interesting. Maybe they'll start over with new people. If not, I'd say let someone new write the script, and get rid of a lot of the camp. It isn't stupid camp like Evil Dead, it's more in line with re-inforcing the character of Peter Parker. Mainly, that he is a dork. And I think part 4 could show us more of a grown up Peter Parker, and ditch the camp. But really, in the end, it is a movie about a person with SPIDER-POWERS....so there will always be SOME camp to it. (Reply to this) |
