I'm inclined to agree with viper88. I own a PS3 and have an HDTV and absolutely love love blue ray. I have a 360 as well and the HD on that just doesn't match. (That could also be because the HD add-on drive only puts out 720p) But still its is fantastic picture quality....Tho spidey sucked orangutang balls in this last one.

The only way you'd be able to tell a difference in picture quality between HDDVD and BluRay is to compare them on the same TV, hooked in with the same cables with the exact same source movie in both drives. Oh, and you'll probably want a very large front projection, 100" , or you're not gonna be noticing ****. Otherwise, you're not making anywhere close to an accurate comparison for either format.

By the way, nobody knows yet if HD or Blu will win out, so stop trying to make strong statements based on the Sony marketing machine (Viper88). That's just your mind buying the hype and playing tricks on you... kinda like the people who say Spidey 3 was a good movie. Don't forget that the PS3 is a huge bust, so Sony is working overtime, uphill, to get Blu to take off.

We'll see which format wins out in the long run after the PS3 finishes it's downward spiral, after seeing consumers react to sub-$250 hi-def players this holiday season, and how quickly HD-DVD porno takes off. How many new consumers will love buying a $199 HDDVD player and then popping in a brand 'spanking' new porno in all its HD glory after a grueling holiday with the in-laws, (a peace of mind Blu-Ray just doesn't offer)?

VHS and DVD both became standards because of pricing, title availability, and porn. Don't get your hopes up for BluRay just yet.

Bluray MAY be the pinnacle. It's arguable. They have more capacity but chose a PoS compression format.

Secondly, to take advantage of Bluray, you need to have a 1080p TV. Too bad the overwhelming majority of HDTVs sold today only go up to 1080i and several only do 720p. So bluray is completely pointless for 90% of the population.

Between those two facts, Bluray comes off as SEVERLY overpriced considering it offers a picture so minimaly better than HDDVD even IF you have the right TV.

Add in the DRM and the uncertainty of both format's longevity and I personally see no reason to go beyond DVD anytime soon.....especially not for SM3.

How about people put away the HDTVs and HD formats and come up with an HD plot? You know....one not so out of focus and incoherent?

You said it, opTimus Nerd! Spider-Man saved me from a burning building just the other day, and all I could say was, "Man, they totally didn't do you justice in that worst movie of all time Spider-Man 3." And then I saw Venom and he said,"Man, they TOTALLY RUINED ME!" He was really pissed.

Now, the comics, they always get them right.

Screw Hollywood mo-fos stealing our hard-earned cash all the time!!!!!!!!!

LOLOLOL i like how all these HD DVD fans just automatically assume that people who support blu ray are being payed by sony to complement it. lolol pleeeaaase ..ive owned both formats and i can tell you.. blu ray is MUCH better.

i actually dont know which one is better, blu ray or HDDVD. but what i do know is that im sticking to dvds until the prices come way down or one of them goes extinct. i havent even bought any dvds lately since im waiting to see which format comes out ahead. and im also waiting on it to see if i should buy a PS3 or not...

come on format wars, i have a lot of stuff to buy

As for the porn, bluray has in fact established the fact that it will let companies produce their works onto their format. Aside from that this is a completely different war than that that went on with beta Vs. VHS. Porn was not accessible as it is today, but now with the web and vhs producing porn at high levels, the demand for it even in the DVD industry is not high at all...if you look at the statistics, porn sales are decreasing exponentially because of the availability of downloads online, nobody wants to go home to their wife to find out that they uncovered their porn stash, its easy, safe, and fast to download it online, therefore porn has little to no impact on this war.

Secondly, the price war that you are talking about has to do namley with the 200$ hddvd player going on sale, toshiba is merely pushing its 1st generation HD players out the door in a firesale, once these are sold the price will no longer stand, its only 1080i picture and supposedly toshiba is in the midst of developing its 50GB disc which requires a triple layer disc...however this will require the existing HDDVD community to buy all new players as the current ones can and will not support it. They have admit that their 30GB is not enough to implement the necessary data that they want on each disc...that is why transformers lacked an uncompressed audio soundtrack, if you check the data stored on the disk it is at max capacity .

Also HDDVD despite its cheap prices has failed to ever beat bluray (even though bluray is the newer format) in sales, any week this past year . Even with transformers being released last week with no new release on bluray, bluray still managed to beat out hddvd. And it pretty much goes down hill from there, the only major release HDDVD has out this quarter is Harry potter and shrek 3....blu ray has Spiderman 3 ( and the trilogy), ratatouille, Die hard 4 ( plus the rest of the series), Harry potter, the Simpsons, and pirates of the carribean 3.

Um no, it outputs at 1080i and 1080p also (I have a 1080p dlp tv and it outputs at true 1080p).
