Too bad they didn't take "years to perfect" the damn story...

With good reason, lilheclou. With good reason.

No more reason to hate Spider-man 3 than Matrix Reloaded, Matanuki. I like both, but neither are groundbreaking masterpieces.
Oct 18 - 05:33 AM
comparing spider-man 3 and Matrix reloaded is spot on, i walked out of both theaters feeling the same way. Both had cool moments, but as a whole, were kind of a let down.
Oct 18 - 05:45 AM
ah matanuki, i see the only thing that can bring you out of exile is a good hate on sp3. all we need is for merlin to come out of the woodworks to defend it and it will be just like old times.
sp3 was so bad, everybody in the theater was laughing out loud like it was wedding crashers. and i saw it in two theaters. same response.
Oct 18 - 07:24 AM
Ah blank blank, you bring up good memories. I never thought Spider-man was a masterpiece, just undeserving of all the hate it gets. But I won't go into defending it, I just saw that Matanuki and yourself were posting something so I had to jump in. I do remember people talking about which movie would end up being the #1 grossing movie of the year, and it appears it will be Spiderman 3 by about 15 mil. Which suprises me quite a bit, actually.

Well, it was for AMERICAN box offices. But WORLDWIDE Pirates actually did better, thank God. I actually didn't hate SM3. It could of been a lot better though. For instance, how about having the final battle be every man for himself? That would of been epic and made up (slightly) for the story. Oh, and of course having more Venom and less Sandman. But I actually didn't think it was that bad over all. Better then the Last Stand at least. That was just sad.
Oct 18 - 04:08 PM
although, props to the people who created sandman.

Does he really have to go through the reasons? How many times have we debated this? It was bad. Really bad.

Anyone else catch the IGN article about taking Spidey 4 in a different direction? Do we really want a different direction, or do we want to trust the director like we did in the first two and not throw in villains from his "least favorite" list like what happened in 3? I have my thoughts on this, which are somewhere between blank and Remote, but I'll leave it to the masses to ponder...

Sad that that much work went into a villain so crappy. They should have saved money and just copied the effects from the Mummy. I don't know about you, but I really couldn't spot the difference although in fairness I was half asleep whenever Sandman was on the screen.
Oct 18 - 10:55 AM
Hey, maybe we can have Spiderman cry in the movie. Then he can cry again. Then again. And again. Superheroes don't need to cry like little bit@$s the entire movie to show dramatic effect!
Oct 18 - 12:26 PM
i think even if raimi was coming back to direct, they need a fresh look. nothing against raimi but i would prefer a new director to bring a different spiderman to the screen
Oct 18 - 12:27 PM
I do remember Raimi basically saying "I wasn't gonna do Venom but it's not just my franchise and so now I guess we are."
This film's development was so over the top between three villains, trailers coming out like 9 months early, and Sony renting out Manhattan for a day to promote it. If they got off of the talents' nuts a bit and allowed them to make a movie that they want to make, it would certainly be better.
With that said, I actually really enjoyed the Arc of the first three involving Harry and Peter. Rushed in the third movie? Yes, but it was a full story that was a large part of this trilogy without hijacking it.
For the love of god, if they make another can it please not come down to Mary Jane screaming while Spider-Man fights the Vulture or whoever the hell kidnapped her? It's laughably campy by now.
One more thing to this epic posting: I hope they bring back Venom at some point because Doctor Conners has a sample of the symbiote and it was never explained what happened to it. Don't bring him back too soon... but leave the symbiote option open for when a filmmaker wants to do it.
And finally: in SM4, I WANT EVEN MORE F****** DANCING!! That stuff was hot.

I knew someone who worked on creating the Sandman. Although the person never told me which character they were creating (NDAs and all), but I did know it was gonna be 2 villains, and that one of them was VERY difficult to create and model. He said that the developers have had to study a lot of physical aspects to actually get everything working in believable fashion. Never revealed any details, and then we had a guessing game about who the two villains are... and guess what, I was right! :-DThis was all back in March 2006, so you can understand how early it was! lolSM3 sucked not on a technical level, but on an aesthetic and story-telling manner. It was quite a bit of overkill... and sometimes Harry seemed nuts (So you can imagine what I thought when Peter was "strutting his stuff")! aah well, I hope the lizard brings about a little seriousness to the franchise... and I hope there's no unnecessary crying anymore... I mean, Tobey seemed like a little baby whose pacifier was ripped out of his mouth! And Mary Jane was supposed to be a drop-dead bombshell who has lots of compassion but is also a strong character...! Whatever happened to that?! :-s

I can't wait to get this on DVD. I'll keep my Spidey movies close to my heart....if for no other reason than to guard myself from real crapfests like X3, Superman Returns, the upcoming "Wanted" movie, HULK (ang lee version), Daredevil, Catwoman, Elektra, Ghost Rider (i think i threw up in my mouth a little) and other crap-tastic films. Watching everyone ***** about SM3 (while having General Grievous or Morpheus in their avatars, no less) is quite humorous, to me. It's better than 80% of the comic movies out there...and damn sure better than the Pirates movies.
