Total Recall: Al Pacino's Best Movies

Summary

It may not be getting much critical love at the moment, but this weekend's Stand Up Guys has at least one thing going for it: An expertly seasoned cast that includes Alan Arkin, Christopher Walken, and Al Pacino. They've all made plenty of great films -- in fact, you can check out our countdown of Walken's best movies right here -- but seeing those names together made us realize that we've never dedicated a list to the mighty Pacino filmography, and we knew we had to take this chance to repent. Join us, if you will, for a stroll through a world where one of the greatest actors of his generation always lived up to his greatest potential, and movies like 88 Minutes and Jack and Jill never happened. It's time for Total Recall! Back to Article

The Insider has to be the least appreciated classic there is. I think it's the best acting performances from Pacino and Crowe in their careers. That it didn't win the big award is depressing :(... Rant is now over lolz!!!

I think that was the first film I saw that starred Al Pacino. A very good film.

@Infernal Dude You know what: I absolutely agree that the '83 version does have iconic scenes, images and lines as you say; I gave the film 2.5 stars out of 5 so it's not like I hated it. But seriously, what did you guys think of the 1932 version? (Bear in mind that "The World is Yours" did come from the original Howard Hawks-Ben Hecht version).

It's a classic, of course. I've found that it doesn't make much sense comparing the two.

Ya, different eras of film making make different feeling films, IMO. To me, Scarface ('83) is a true example of '80s excess and has a very '80s vibe to it YET keeps a lot of the "gangster" themes intact. Either way, I still enjoy the film. Hell, I call someone a "fucking cock-A-roach " at least once a week.

I see a lot of people complaining there's no "HEAT." I just re-watched Heat for the 4th or 5th time...it's a great movie. But it's also some of Pacino's WORST acting. I enjoy his acting, but only because it's outrageously over the top. You get the feeling he's ad-libbing half the time, and you can almost picture the director not having the courage to yell cut, then keeping the footage in because it's so BIZARRE.

Both Pacino and Deniro have some weird nervous habits, and maybe because they knew the other was also in film, they both had them on high display. It's a fun heist flick, but not one of Pacino's best.

Besides, this list is just math...

I will watch it before I make a final judgement. I just love those other films so much, it's going to be very hard for it to beat them out. I do like Mann though.
