Critic Review - rec.arts.movies.reviews

A mindless, milling mess. Just what you would expect from somebody schooled in the Michael Bay/Jerry Bruckheimer academy of bad directing.

In fairness, I'm pretty tough on most movies and find the majority of them to be made for the mindless.
But seeing all the positive reviews of this P.O.S. actually inspired me to register and join this site.

Wow! The terrible acting and cookie cutter Mike Bayish directing looks good compared to what has to be the worst writing for any movie in the world.

The Kirk as a kid scene? (Are you kidding me?)

Everyone (Very conveniently) meets each other in the 1st 10 mins of the film.

Spok was more emotional than ever.

Uhura was a different person completely from any other renderings.

Everything and everyone was completely 1 dimensional.

I could go on and on....

How did this movie get a single positive review?!! Did anyone else feel the dialog was dumbed down to an excruciatingly too painful to watch level? I felt like I was being tortured for just trying to finish watching this movie.

I went in for the special effects but couldn't enjoy them for my brain was too busy being put on hold.

94%?!!....All I can say is "WOW!"

Maybe you didn't notice, but this movie was a reboot for Star Trek. It was aforementioned.

look at me, I am super critical of movies and so cynical that I can't even put aside a movie that isn't exactly how I would make it... That must suck. If you have directed, written, or produced a film please inform me. If not than please let me know what it is like to be the greatest director, writer, producer, or actor to have never done anything with a film.

But please take this last part to heart...The more cynical you become the less you will enjoy everything. I am 100% not suggested to mindlessly let movies just wash over you and zone out for two hours but rather don't watch a movie with a checklist titled "How this movie failed me"

Can we just stop with that stupid stupid insult. It's not like he got paid millions of dollars to make any movies. If that insult is true then most of us must like everything. We never got paid to do a job we can't do whilst other people did. We have a right to criticise them.
P.S I liked the movie.

Bowties Are Cool, I love your username. I'm a Doctor Who fan, too! And, Scotty M., you're a massive snob. Go watch some boring art house film and leave the people who can actually enjoy themselves alone. Star Trek was an incredibly entertaining movie experience. I can't stand being around most "highbrow" people because they're utterly incapable of having any fun.

Your review is a mindless, milling mess. Grow a brain and realize a decent movie when you see it.

This review was basically an attempt to make Avatar's entirely stolen plot and gimmicks seem like a remarkable achievement against Star Trek. The problem is that Avatar was sold as an entirely new experience, and was only so on the visuals; Star Trek was sold as a re-energizing of a very old franchise. It is Star Trek, and pretends to be nothing else. Why judge it beyond this? Avatar presents to be the future of cinema: and it is a cliche-ridden, one-dimensional, mindlessly preachy piece. Do the math: Avatar deserves careful scrutiny, Star Trek deserves a bit of a break.

Your misconstruing the claims of Avatar. It changes cinema on a technical level, not a story level. How does a film "change cinema" by it's story these days? Almost everything is a rehash of a previously written story, get over it.

Avatar never claimed to have an original story, so hipsters should stop overanalizing it. Avatar is simply a massively entertaining popcorn movie, nothing more and nothing less. I had a great time with Avatar and Star Trek.

Dude, you entirely missed the(obvious)sarcasm in his post. He was saying that this movie isn't exactly starving for a good review, it got plenty. If one random idiot critic gave it a bad review it isn't going to affect much. A 94 instead of a 95. Darn..

Abrams is one of the best directors in the business and THE best new director. He's the new Steven Spielburg. To compare him to Michael Bay/Jerry Bruckheimer is insulting. Abrams and the Bad Robot crew is the future of cinema, not James Cameron

Hey now, I agree with everything you said but the James Cameron insult. Abrams is a damn good director and this film is a testament to his craft, but camparing him to Cameron? Dont even go there buddy. Wake up! Abrams has many yaers before he is even near Camerons level.

Standards do change from one movie to the next. The set of standards you have
Star Trek up against are the wrong ones. This is not a good sign for any critic.

Why is it that you are on this site if you don't understand how to recognize a good movie? The story was so perfectly written, it was absolutely brilliant. How blind are you? Do you even have brain?

You wouldn't know Michael Bay from Alfred Hitchcock. RT needs to weed out these fake "Critics" who just open up a group or a site and than channel Rodger Ebert.
Oh and BEST MOVIE EVER!

I'm with you... I can't believe this movie as such a high rating.

The directing is bad, and the acting is even worst...

All I can say about this movie is that I wish I could get back the two plus hours of my life I spent watching it.

Doueshbags in space is what they should have named it.

Bad acting, writing, enough plot holes to drive a fleet of trucks through, and someones idea that enough explosions would make up for it.

How the hell this movie even got signed off on by the Roddenberry estate is beyond me. They must have been hurting for cash.

I can't help but wonder if you posted a review like that simply to stand out.

Or perhaps you dislike the genre altogether, in which case you're not the best critic to listen to.

I think James Cameron had this guy's dick in a vice clamp while he was writing this review. You'd think Cameron was Jesus Christ himself. For someone to simultaneously orgasm over a predictable, mediocre movie like Avatar, while at the same time ripping Star Trek, I can see why he's a self-proclaimed Marxist. I mean, in a capitalist system, ****ty reviewers like him are relegated to obscure websites, and only catch their big break when RT picks up their review to balance out the tomatometer. He's bitter. I know the 3D is real neat to look at, Mr. Proyect. And I know time travel is hard to understand. But don't dog the movie because you're too stupid to get it. Just refrain from writing a review.
