I think Zoe Saldana is a an excellent choice as Uhura. I am looking forward to learning who the rest of the cast will be. If thie script is good and they cast the right actors, this movie will be a hit. I have heard a lot of different rumors about who will be cast in the other main roles. I still think James McAvoy is a good choice to play the new Scotty.

I am psyched for this next release of Star Trek. Excellent casting thus far. I am extremely pleased with Zoe being on the Avatar cast - again perfect roles for her. Read more about Avatar and other Digital 3D movies on my blog: http://marketsaw.blogspot.com

Love Zoe, but with the small amount of roles that it seems to be for black actresses. You mean to tell me they can't get a non latin woman an African woman?!

That is a truly bizarre comment. You do know that she was born in New Jersey and raised in Queens until she was 10. Also that many people from South/Central/North America are descended from Africa as well. Plus the grammar isn't helping your cause.

Since Uhura was mainly a "show of thick, long, shapely brown-toned legs" in the orignal series, I think J.J. Abrams could cast any black actress from the list, and it would be OK.
I never did get why all the male officers and occasionaly some of the female officers on the ENTERPRISE (who were not alien) wore long and opaque uniforms--- while the only, single black woman on board that starship, was kept naked from the waist down...
Kinky? Yes.
Stupid excuse for gratuitios-partial-(suggested) nudity? A big 'Yes' on that one.
