Tyler Perry Appearing in Star Trek XI?
Madea Goes to Space.
by Jeff Giles | January 02, 2008
Discuss Article
Tyler Perry -- writer, director, and star of films such as Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? and Madea Goes to Jail -- is going boldly where hallowed names like Shatner, Nimoy, and Montalban have gone before.

We're talking about Star Trek, of course -- specifically, Star Trek XI, the J.J. Abrams-directed franchise reboot making its way to theaters on December 25. The UGO Movieblog reports that Perry has already filmed his role in Trek XI -- and that it's a character of some importance. Spoilers are involved, so if you want to know the whole scoop, you'll have to read the full story; for now, suffice it to say the storyline involves a piece of older Trek lore.

Perry may not seem like the most obvious choice for a Trek cameo, but his forays into theater, film, television, and books have earned him a sizeable following -- and the distinction of being one of the most bankable talents in show business -- so in terms of building crossover appeal, this could be a pretty crafty move by everyone involved. he's probably got the biggest built-in audience of any cast member. as soon as his fans hear he's in star trek, they'll brave the trekkie onslaught to show love. won't they?

I think it would be really neat and a nice homage to Star Trek II, to have this movie start with the Kobyashi Maru test with Kirk "winning" and then getting punished...all before those pesky Romulans show up to ruin the day.

This is a good cameo for Perry.

One question. Will he be in drag? Because we all know that's just funny stuff.

This is the first encouraging news I've heard from the Trek set, and the scene sounds promising--if you TOTALLY DISREGARD ALL CONTINUITY and forget about the fact that Spock and Kirk WEREN'T AT THE ACADEMY AT THE SAME TIME! Spock was already serving aboard the Enterprise under Pike while Kirk was still at the Academy.

{sigh}

40 years of history down the drain for story expediency...gotta love it.

Spock and Kirk were at the Academy together. Spock was there from 2249-2253 and Kirk from 2250-2254. Go look it up @ startrek.com

Haha I love it the entire Star Trek continuity flushed down the toilet. I'm going on opening night just to soak in all the indignity from all the goofs wearing Klingon foreheads and laugh at them. It will be very entertaining.

All we need is a CGI character like Jar Jar voiced by Seth McFarlane making poop jokes. Trekkies are losers and should feel bad about what the franchise has come to: a cross-dressing comedian making a cameo appearance to attract the Adam Sandler audience. It's just too sweet: the final nail in the coffin of Star Trek as two generations have known it. As someone who feels Trekkies take themselves and Trek way too seriously, I have waited for this day for a long time.

We should all laugh at the die-hards who have to just sit there bitterly and take it. I love the show but it played so fast and loose with parallel universes and different realities and stuff like that that I don't mind a different perspective on Trek from a guy like Abrams. Remember Trekkies, MST3K reminded us "it's just a show" and to "just relax." Will you not take Joel Hodgson's advice? Of course not, you're too busy being sanctimonious and I'm going to enjoy every minute of Abram's assault on your precious franchise.

this movie is going to bomb so bad just look at the cast you got ginger brit dork from shaun of the dead( what a bad, bad horrible actor, he is brittish of course, then we got the asian kid from american pie and the two college guy movies with bad humor komar and ****, Now this guy tyler perry, hollywood has lost its mind the only people who watch tyler perrys movies are black people, that is the only reason why WB is still around although those horrific shows with damon wayans and llcoolj are being weeded out due to crack is becoming scarce. Star trek died when they made generations then again with insurrection. Not to mention all the failed shows thanks scott bakula!
