WTF--?! They couldn't give Simon Pegg a hairpiece? Scotty was never almost bald, and this batch of posters is much more generic looking than the first. I had actually forgotten Star Trek was coming out, since there's been so little word of it recently, and the flick's only four months away!
Paramount and J.J. Abrams need to get their awareness level up, quick.

Isn't it coming out next may? I'm pretty sure it was pushed back.Anyway, I'm sure glad they got someone who looked like Chekov to play him(sarcasm)
Aug 11 - 07:13 AM
thereign, it comes out May 8, 2009- the week after "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".
Aug 11 - 08:07 AM
If they didn't tell me who everyone was playing, I'd never be able to figure out who was supposed to be who (except Sulu, obviously).
Aug 11 - 08:35 AM
Yeah, like why aren't the producers cloning the original actors in a vat of primordial dilithium ooze? Those bastards should rot in hell for wasting my time and the studios money on things like writering and actoring and special effectoring.
Aug 11 - 09:19 AM
Take heart, fellow posters. Similar likenesses to original characters' looks does not a good movie make.
Aug 11 - 09:21 AM
I was pretty disappointed that this movie was pushed back. And for no other reason than they thought they'd make more money. I don't get it. People will go see a movie in December just like they will in May, if it is good. LOTR made a crud-load of money in December. Plus, they you are followed up by all the crap-tastic movies in Jan, Feb, and March. You could rule the box office for months. LAME.

Thank you, Heath Huxall, for the update on ST's release date. Yet, this is just what I'm talking about: there's been so little talking up of this movie(at least, that I've seen--and I AM an original series ST fan), that I wasn't even aware it had been pushed back!
People were aware of The Dark Knight for more than a year, thanks to the viral marketing campaign, Ledger's involvement, and just the fact that fanboys were so stoked for it. In Star Trek's case, J.J. Abrams and Paramount are being so secretive(aside from the very lame photos they've released so far of Spock at some summit), it's to the film's own detriment.
And if they're really holding the film back now just to make some extra dough, the Paramount execs have officially earned a private, reserved spot in one of the circle's of Dante's Inferno.

I think them pushing back to May is a positive b/c Paramount must now think this new Star Trek is summer tent pole material, rather than a potential break-out hit in December. I think it shows the studio has confidence in the film by pushing it back, and it gives Abrams more time to tweak it (though I would like to see it sooner, simply, b/c I too am an original series fan)
Aug 11 - 12:11 PM
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this, and I could give a rat's a** about Star Trek.

From what I have heard, Abrams was a bit miffed that the studio decided to push the release back til May. I personally think it would work best as a December release to play heavily throughout the holiday and beyond. This simply might get lost amidst the week in week out onslaught of new major films in May.

I agrre with dbask25, Paramount should move it back to its december release date. It would make more money in december, I predict this movie might have a big opening weekend but the other films will take away its audience. May already has X-men Origins: Wolverine, Angels & Demons, and Terminator Salvation

3 cheers for Karl Urban in a decent movie!
Aug 11 - 05:24 PM
I'm a fan of the original ST and ST:TNG. My interest in seeing the new movie is pretty high considering they are bringing back Nemoy to play future Spock who will warn younger Spock & Kirk about some nefarious plan of the Romulans. Towards the end of ST:TNG there was a subplot where Spock/Nemoy had infiltrated Romulus having connected with some Romulans who were more peaceful towards the Federation. That story line was never fully resolved which leads me to speculate whether or not this could be a continuation of that story.
However, my desire to actually shell out the shekels for a theatre viewing will be affected by how well it scores on good old RT.

"People were aware of The Dark Knight for more than a year, thanks to the viral marketing campaign" What are you retarded?! We are talking about it know dummy!
Aug 11 - 05:43 PM
"3 cheers for Karl Urban in a decent movie!" Ever heard of LOTR?!
I was referencing the fact that he hasn't been in a decent movie since. (Doom, Pathfinder, Chronicles of Riddick).I guess you could count Bourne Supremacy as a good one, but I don't think he had ONE line in it.

And the movie was pushed back for SFX morons!
