These dicks just can't take responsibility for themselves. All excuses. From Simon Pegg and Roberto Orci's incessent whining and bitching to Abrams being upset that people still love William Shatner. Pitiful little brats.

Exactly. Oh no, it's not that it's incompetently written and thematically empty, or that they openly treat the fans like shit (and I say that as a non-Trek fan, just somebody who likes movies), that's not why people didn't like it. It's the video game and those mean fans. It's everyone's fault but theirs.

Considering how movie-based video games are generally considered awful anyway (a cliche going back to Atari's "E.T."), why should we assume that anyone's disappointment in the game had any effect on their view of the film? It just doesn't make any sense.

What's strange is that they're acting like the film was unfairly reviled or something when it's currently the highest rated big budget film of the summer. Sure, some of the fanboy reaction has been harsh, but that's natural with any franchise with a passionate fanbase.
I suppose you could argue that Pegg and Abrams are somewhat unfamiliar to fanbase reactions (though it's not like Lost didn't have its share of very negative reactions too, particularly to the ending) but the screenwriters at the very least should be used to this sort of thing, given that they scripted the three Transformers flicks and those got way more hate than the new Star Trek films.

I wish people could just read the article for what it is. He's talking strictly from a financial standpoint. And if he's right that a lame video game didn't help, then it is most definitely "arguable" that it hurt the film. Good grief, everyone's so quick to extreme reactions these days. I mean, I'm sure Abrams cares what the fans think, but I doubt he cares what the extreme minority of them do. And make no mistake, commenters on RT who attack him for everything from being a "dick who doesn't take responsibility for himself" to lens flare abuser are in the extreme minority. You can yell and scream as loud as you want but that does not make you more than one individual with an opinion.
And besides, a wise man once said that it really doesn't matter if they boo or cheer you, just as long as they make noise. By whining so much about Abrams(and Lucas before him), you're only confirming how successful he is(and you're not).

LOL. "Emotionally, it hurt" - JJ Abrams. He's a brat.

The movie has nothing to do with the video for most people didn't even know that there was even a game to begin with! JJ Abrams is just talking through his ass!
