Data Won't Return for "Star Trek XI"?

Unless huge sums of money or time travel is involved, it looks very unlikely that Brent Spiner, aka Data in the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" series, will reprise his role for the eleventh theatrical installment of "Star Trek." spoke with BANG Showbiz's senior editor Simon Thompson who said Spiner told him that he's "too old" to play Data and that the make-up on him would "look stupid" at his age.

"Star Trek XI" will be produced (and possibly direct) by J.J. Abrams ("Alias," "Lost") and is rumored to be about James T. Kirk early days at Starfleet Academy, a rumor Abrams delined. Matt Damon has been rumored to be in consideration to play Kirk. Paramount is shooting for a 2008 release.
