In Other News...George Takei Boldly Goes Where Many Have Gone Before
Almost 40 years after originating the role of Sulu on "Star Trek," George Takei has officially come out of the space closet in the current issue of the gay and lesbian mag, Frontiers. The veteran television and voice actor, who starred in the original television series and six of the big screen features (with nary a homosexual character to be found throughout the Federation), confirmed that he and his partner, Brad Altman, have been together for 18 years. Takei cites his current theater gig, playing a shrink in "Equus," as the inspiration for going public with his sexuality.

Darth Pepsi writes: on Oct 29 2005 09:15 PM I am still a fan of Mr. Sulu. Who cares that he's gay? I am glad that he has managed to come to grips with this issue. Mr. Sulu/George Takai will still be one of my favorites on that old show. I really liked his character, and George seemed like a good guy. (Reply to this) |
