Shatner On Board for a New Trek?
by Gareth J. Von Kallenbach | December 15, 2005
Discuss Article
CanMag.com reports that Captain Kirk might be returning to the bridge of the Enterprise for the next "Star Trek" film. Not only that - he might be joined by Patrick Stewart's Captain Picard and Scott Bakula's Johnathan Archer, of "The Next Generation" and "Enterprise," respectively.

The site claims that the idea to set the next "Trek" movie as a prequel, with the action centering on the students of the Starfleet Academy, has been trashed. Instead, they're considering doing a sequel that will be set in the "Mirror" Universe - which we've seen in both "Star Trek" and "Enterprise" before - which will make it possible for several of the 'captains' to team up. (After all, there's no rules/no continuity restrictions in the 'Mirror' universe.)

"Apparently Shatner was in talks to do a guest role on Enterprise, but it didn’t work out. Why? Apparently he wanted a) more money b) would rather do Trek films. Solution? The ideas for the episode of the “Enterprise” episode he was going to do will now be incorporated into a movie. Yep, Captain kirk’s back", says the site. "It’ll be Shatner, Captain Picard and maybe Archer".

Let's just hope this new "Trek" movie is better than "Star Trek: Nemesis"!

No No No
I'm an old-school and next-generation Star Trek fan, but please people, for the love of Spock, you can't make a movie where Capt. Kirk teams up with Capt. Picard, again!

There aren't any rules or continuity restrictions in Star Trek itself.

No. No. No. Just don't. I'd be pleased to see a movie based on Enterprise, but none of this. The mirror universe? Kirk returns? I was hoping the date was April 1 but sadly it is not.

This sounds retarded.

They need to give up on Star Trek for a while.

mirror universes and time travel != good plots

Stop being F#####G sarcastic!!!
Damnit! I'm so sick an' tired of these trashy, negetive responses to whenever a Star Trek movie is considered. Damnit, all Star Trek movies are GREAT, ALWAYS WERE and ALWAYS WILL BE. So "Nemesis" might've been slightly less-good that the previous ones-- BUT still, considering the other Bullshit Sci-Fi movies out there ("serenity", anyone?) I'll gladly welcome all the Federation's captains (and that "whoo-sexy" T'pol too!) to the BIG screen!
By the way, many might want to feel "better" with themselves, thinking that I'm a geek (Star Trek fans are so considered, mainly for being outwardly more INTELLIGENT and SMART!)-- but rest assured: I could (and would love to) kick the "arrogant" asses of anyone, just for thinking that.
So stop being so f####ng sarcastic and negetive. Give it a chance. You've always ENJOYED Star Trek before. Show some respect.

This sounds terrible, just terrible (it has to be a Berman/Bragga concept).
I don't think a mirror universe movie could work at all; who cares about a plot, that is totally irrelevant eventually? And please, leave Scott Bakula out of it! The prequel idea didn't work on the small screen, it certainly won't work in a motion picture.
The only possible way is back into the trek "present", so I would be fine with a Picard return, if they need him to promote the film, but give some of the DS9 and VOY crew something to do. Jeri Ryan is available, isn't she?

Giving new movies a chance is important. We shouldn't all shake in our boots when a sequel is being made. I thought Batman Begins was going to be terrible but then i saw it and it was great. So give movies a shop people. Oh and by the way, Serenity was a very well made and a very good movie.

Right on, Moosey
There probably isn't even a screenplay yet, and already the geeks are declaring how much it's going to suck. Business as usual. If I were making a genre movie, I wouldn't feel my job was complete until the little fanboys wadded up their diarrhea stained tighty whiteys and started crying about how much it sucked.

Get over it, nerds. If you don't like it, don't see it. Simple, ain't it?

Serenity was great, by the way. If you don't think so, wipe your daddy's seed out of your eyes and watch it again.

LOUD, ARROGANT EXCLAMATION! SECONDARY LOUD, ARROGANT EXCLAMATION! Crude and condescending remark to "subculture." Obligatory Shatner "old" reference. Positive reference to 7-of-9. Snide commentary on previous trek films. Conventional and unoriginal "get-a-life" restatement. Closing comment referencing a fairly obscure film - as "a real film." That about sums it up.

Phew. Although I don't care about Star Trek one way or the other, I feel that there are so many orginal sci-fi ideas out there that could be used. Yet... with the exception of a few orginal ideas (the exceptional Serenity being one) people just continue to go back to old stories that are doing just fine where they left off. I have nothing against a sequel or two but now a days it seems like people are overdueing it. According to the people on this board, there have already been tons of good Star Trek movies. Why can't we just leave it at that? Do we need to continue making sequel after sequel that progressivly get worse and worse until the entire beloved franchinse is a joke?

I'm not saying that they SHOULDN'T make a new Stark Trek movie. I just wish that they'd try out some new ideas instead of beating old ones to death.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE?
This idea is genuis, pure genuis. I for one will stand in line and buy tickets for all my friends if a 70 year old Shatner makes it with some young hot alien babe. C'mon, you can't get better than that!! Have you forgotten this is Star Trek and the most ridiculous ideas work the best?!? (ie: the original series) I am not thrilled about the Captin Archer idea, but give me another 10 movies with Kirk and Picard travelling through the universe on crazy new adventures, and if they bond along the way all the better. Kirk and Picard buddy movies...yeah!! I hope they get Mr. T to play an alien. Ok maybe I went a little too far there. I am just way too excited at the possibility of seeing this movie.

You know you want to see this movie and you will all see it when it is released! Why? Because you are a slave to Star Trek. We all are! Don't fight it, just give in...just give in.
