Lucas Talks Star Wars TV Series

Trading Skywalkers for robots?

Three decades after taking theatrical audiences to a galaxy far, far away, George Lucas is preparing to bring the Star Wars universe to the small screen.

Variety reports that after years of speculation, Lucas has begun publicly talking up a planned "live-action television series spinoff" of the Star Wars films. From the article:

Lucas told The Los Angeles Times he has "just begun work" on the series, which will not include the films' major characters Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader.

"The Skywalkers aren't in it, and it's about minor characters," Lucas told the Times.

Lucas wouldn't reveal details, but joked that the series would be about "the life of robots."

The article also touches on the CGI series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which Lucas Animation has been working on "for months" and is in search of a network home.

FINALLY a network show about the daily goings on of Nien Nunb and the Tonnika Sisters! It's like Three's Company with DROIDS! There IS a god; Lucas be thy name.

I really wish they would collaborate with Cartoon Network again for the Clone Wars animated show instead of doing CGI. The one they did before was great; even better than movies 1-3!

This news should be enough to root the Lucas bashers out of their holes.

dracus, we're already here. this is gonna be sh3t. without Mcgregor...the last 2 movies would have been even MORE laughable. the only thing that saved Menace from being the worst movie ever was Ray Park and Ewan. i can't wait till this comes on...there aren't enough shows that are funny nowadays, and this one should be hilarious considering that ridiculous last scene in the 3rd one. "Noooooooooooooo"...haha, that still makes me laugh

Ewan did an excellent job, and thats probably the main reason that II and III saved face. It couldn't even hope to have Ewan to save its own ***.

I'm sorta interested in this series. But kinda not, since in the whole Star Wars saga, my interest is mostly on the Skywalker's and those closely related to them.

Oh no. Heaven forbid there's actually something to watch on TV. Even though movies 1-3 didn't live up to expectations, they're still better than 90% of the crap out there. I'm one that's looking forward to this TV series. The Star Wars universe has a ton of creative room for making interesting stories. The less they are linked to the movie storylines the better.

I've been avoiding Clone Wars cartoons, mainly because I hate the animation style they chose. It's just horrible and IMO doesn't fit Star Wars properly.

haven't we already had this discussion where the star wars haters blow idiotic **** out of their mouths and fans blow their loads? like i said in the past, to bash it based on Lucas is retarded considering he already said he's not taking the reigns on this one. and i still believe this could easily go either way. it could be total ***, or it could be total badass. if given the Battlestar Galactica treatment, this could damn well be one of the greatest shows ever. the mythos and plot possibilities of the Star Wars universe are infinite. so much could be done with awesome, interesting, and complex characters that great writers could just pull out of their asses because nothing has to be based on established characters. they have one of the greatest setups possible on their hands. if they eff it up, it will be a real shame, cause the potential is endless.

It seriously is kind of surprising that they haven't made a show already. There is so much material and endless possibilities to work from. I will remain optimistic.

Slightly off-topic, but I had a dream last night where I was at a really horrible McDonald's, and I was making my way toward the exit through a crowd of customers and George Lucas held the door open for me.

ndroach, you should be a politician...you just bashed everybody and never took a stand on anything. good one. i don't see how this has potential anymore based on realistic odds, its 20 years too late. ideas, IN GENERAL, are infinite. you could say the same thing about Battlefield Earth dude. you're basically saying BEST CASE SCENARIO, it'll be awesome. worst case scenario...it'll suck, but thats sad if it sucks. wow...awesome voice...good stuff, seriously. nothing said there that everybody didn't already know. prob is, who's REALLY in charge. i don't see Lucas taking his ONLY baby...and letting somebody do what THEY want with it. just don't see it. if they do, it can't be any worse than the last 3 movies. dude has so much influence...he's turned good actors(portman, liam, sammy jackson, etc) into laughable HORRIBLE acting that compares to porno. this COULD very well be an amazing show, then 'gain...the cubs COULD win the world series next year, but we know where the odds are...

Why not just combine Star Trek and Star Wars for the hot new show Trek Wars. tagline: "Prepare to embark on a star-laden trek... TO WAR!" Bzzzzoooo (light saber noise, maybe some blasters goin off or something). It would be UNIVERSALLY appealing. yes, no...?

Please, oh please say the series will have a Holiday Special! It's been so long since we've been treated to a good Life Day celebration and I'm just dying to catch up with Chewbacca's family... Lumpy, Malla, Bea Arthur... Carrie Fisher could make a very special guest appearance to sing a Life Day carol!

Fingers crossed! Can't wait!

If those who think that a Star Wars series without the main characters is laughable, then maybe you should read the book Star Wars Tales.

This is n incredible book of short stories written by a number of sci fi writers such as Timothy Zahn that tells the back story of every single minor character that appeared in all three of the original Star Wars movies. Everyone from Boba Fett who it turns out did not die in the pit as the movie leads you to believe, to how the Cantina Band happened to be playing at the bar in the first movie. All I can say is that if the television series turns out to be only half as good as the book Star Wars Tales, it will rival any of the movie

A Star Wars series taking place in the distant past about the jedi could be good, unless they went the WB route and cast 20 something white models. If they were aliens, it could be nice. A show taking place after episode 3 without Darth Vader and Obi-Wan would be stupid. A show with a younger yoda, a young Mace Windu, and a young Qui-Gon Jin would be awesome!
