"Starship Troopers" is a war satire that outshines even Kubrick's great film Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb."

Mr. Cole Smithey is clearly a man of good taste and class.
In a parallel universe, where Rob Schneider is a shakespearean actor and Starship Troopers is more than a cheesy popcorn movie.

The book? Arguable. The film? Not a chance.

Agree that Starship Troopers is an underrated war satire. Jaw-droppingly disagree that it even approaches Strangelove.

its hard to compare it to the kubrick movies, but starship troopers is an amazingly fun, action packed, and has amazing special effects even to this day.

Its not surprising that this movie went over the heads of the mainstream American audience, its about them. The picture it paints is one of a belligerent, cheesy, superficial, shallow, society of suckers. The coup de grace is when the mirror is held out in front of the mainstream audience they react with revulsion, not over the violence, but rather the total absence of character among any of the protagonists. This is absolutely brilliant art.

Agree entirely with Salviati.

Verhoeven's movie is a brilliant satire of the Fox News-watching side of American society. One of the best movies ever made about propaganda and patriotism.

If you didn't realize that the humans were essentially the bad guys, you missed the entire point of the movie.

And, flipping the necker cube around, it's a cracking popcorn movie at the same time.

One of the ten best mainstream movies of the 1990s. Genuinely brilliant.

I agree with his feelings about Starship Troopers. It is a good movie and is a satire of a war centered society. The movie is made like a military propaganda movie. However, his review fails miserably because of his claim that this movie outshines Dr Strangelove. That is so far off the mark that I am shocked anyone would make such a claim.

A brilliant film, but you go a little too far in your praise there.
