Movie Info

Aliens from outer space land in a rural North Carolina location and take the teenage Deirdre Ione Skye) and her grandmother Grace Clark (Maureen O'Sullivan) hostage in this science fiction fantasy. Trapped in their remote farmhouse, the two women find themselves in the middle of a gun battle when some good-old-boy rednecks and local Sheriff McMahon (Joe Morton) come to oust the aliens. The rednecks are first reluctant to take orders from the black sheriff, who eventually becomes sympathetic towards the aliens. The Department of Defense sends agent Helen Anderson (Susan Barnes) to investigate the extraterrestrial visitors. The two women try to understand the aliens, who appear friendly and treat them well, and in this respect, the story works on a more human level, becoming an allegorical tale of bigotry and intolerance.more

Surely, it mixes "ET" with "The Desperate Hours," but its charms are undeniable.
