RT on DVD: Street Fighter, Transmorphers 2, and Uwe Boll's Tunnel Rats!
Summary
It's an interesting week for home video, and here's why; we've got new films from a celebrated cinematographer adapting a video game (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li, directed by Andrejz Bartkowiak), a rap-rock front man doing a sensitive coming of age tale (The Education of Charlie Banks, directed by Fred Durst), an action veteran gunning for hire (12 Rounds, directed by Renny Harlin), and, well, Uwe Boll (Tunnel Rats). The week also features a recently unearthed film from comedy director Hal Ashby (Lookin' to Get Out, starring Jon Voight and Angelina Jolie in her first role) and an anthology film dedicated to the city of Tokyo, Japan (Tokyo!, directed by Michel Gondry, Joon-Ho Bong and Leos Carax). Last but not least, The Asylum gives us the highly anticipated sequel to their Transformers knock-off "mockbuster" (Transmorphers: The Fall of Man)! Back to Article

But, there has got to be someone in hollywood who wants to kick the **** out of him(Michael Bay?). P.S.- Can't wait for Kane and Lynch. Stay away Uwe Boll! (Reply to this) |

man in the water writes: on Jun 29 2009 10:19 PM Really doesn't look like a good week. No, I will not give the Razzie winning film a shot. However I can highy recommend Two Lovers to anyone. I caught it in theatres and very much enjoyed it. It is a realistic romance. Very good film. Highly recommended. Other than that nothing I have interest in (Reply to this) |

Jen Yamato writes: on Jun 30 2009 09:46 AM I know it's a bad week for good movies, but there's something about having: - new Uwe Boll - Street (4%) Fighter - Transmorphers 2 (did you see that CG robot?) - Fred Durst directing a movie - new Renny Harlin - and a 00% Hal Ashby movie. I find this week in DVD highly amusing. Then again, I'm sort of fascinated with bad movies. JEN OUT! (Reply to this) |

GST writes: on Jun 30 2009 09:52 AM I might see Street Fighter just for laughs... I love terrible cheesy movies, which makes me want to see Transmorphers as well (which I'm sure is still better than the material its ripping off. I mean, at least its funny, even if it is unintentional, which I actually don't think it is, but yeah...). However, Tokyo! and Two Lovers sound great, especially Tokyo! because I'm a total Japanophile (and no, that doesn't mean I just love anime and sushi, I pretty much am fascinated with everything from/about Japan besides those two things), I'm looking at you Jen. (Yamato is Japanese, right? I already feel creepy enough, but if I'm wrong... yikes). I really do love how RT bashes many of these films then shamelessly self promotes exclusive clips and such. (and no. I'm not being sarcastic, I really do like it!)Speaking of shameless self promotion, here's my [crappy and useless] twitter account! Go (Reply to this) |

GST writes: on Jun 30 2009 09:58 AM Oh, yes, Uwe Boll must be addressed! Tunnel Rats looks like crap, pretty much. BUT! I do plan on seeing Alone in the Dark soon, I'm hoping for Plan 9 From Outerspace 2005. I still cant believe Fred Durst directed a movie, still cant. Jen, have you watched any of the old Godzilla/Mothra films? (I mean, any of the movies from after the original Gojira to say, 1998). They are absolutely hilarious, I'd be willing to recommend. Oh, and fabulous Tomato suit, I must get one of my own. (Reply to this) |

Bret C. writes: on Jun 30 2009 10:33 AM I'm looking forward to Tunnel Rats. I like Uwe Boll and I even like a few of his movies. I think most people just bash him because it's apparently a trendy thing to do. (Reply to this) |

K C. writes: on Jun 30 2009 11:12 AM @GST I've seen some of the old godzilla films and I agree that they are hilarious fun. Especially if they are dubbed in english. Having said that, I'm def going to check out this new Street fighter. Its guranteed good for a few laughs. At least worth a rental. (Reply to this) |

tomwaitsjr writes: on Jun 30 2009 11:15 AM For what it's worth, I loved Asylum's MEGA SHARK vs. GIANT OCTOPUS, although, in a so bad it's funny kind of way. . . So, I may check out Transmorphers, although the trailer looks awful. (Reply to this) |

Nick R. writes: on Jun 30 2009 12:10 PM Stop Hating. Two of the best of the year are released this week. Two Lovers was excellent and crazy *** Joaquin Pheonix gives probably his best performance to date. And how any of you can pass on Eastbound and Down. Kenny Powers should come and kick the **** out of all of you. (Reply to this) |

ledawg1138 writes: on Jun 30 2009 02:08 PM In reply to this comment (#2519449) I love bad movies, but Boll and Asylum can't reach the "So bad it's good" category of things like "Plan 9" or "Jaws The Revenge". (Reply to this) |

RexLaboro writes: on Jun 30 2009 06:26 PM It is beyond comprehension that anyone who saw the trailer for this film still went to go see it. It was so obvious that the film was cheap and horrible. I'm a Street Fighter fan and I will NEVER see this movie. Not even for laughs. The clips here on RT were so terrible that it tells that the film isn't even bad good- where you could at least get some kicks out of it. They only wanted to cash in on the video game release of SF4 and throw some cheap movie together loosely based on the game. M Bison in a business suit with a grizzly Adams beard. (Reply to this) |

RexLaboro writes: on Jun 30 2009 06:33 PM In reply to this comment (#2519477) Dude, please. Don't insult people because you have horrible taste. Uwe Bowels films are UNWATCHABLE. I rented In the Name of the King and thought I sat on the remote and switch it a Sci-Fi original movie by accident. Needless to say I couldnt finish the whole film. It was a bad weekend. I rented 10,000 BC the ame day. (Reply to this) |

Tyrant writes: on Jun 30 2009 10:10 PM Terrible movie week... Transmorphers 2 is laughable, so bad it isn't even MST3K worthy. It's bad when Uwe Boll isn't the worst thing to come out this week. (Reply to this) |

Jen Yamato writes: on Jul 01 2009 04:14 PM GST: First off, why, yes I am of Japanese descent! Good eye. However, I don't speak it and I'm 4th generation and I don't like anime but I do love Japanese food, so you're probably more knowledgeable about Japanese culture than I am. I do love kaiju everything and have seen a few Godzilla flicks, but please give me some recommendations! And I'll tell you to be on the lookout for a film called Big Man Japan, which opened recently in limited release and is coming to DVD this summer. (I loved it.) Re: those DVD clips, what can I say? I'm not willing to give a film undeserved kudos if it stinks. But I do want to share exclusive content with my readers. So, that's that. You can't polish a 4% turd. (But hey, if someone wants to see it more because of a behind the scenes clip, more power to them.) (I also like parentheses.) BTW, I've just looked up your user profile in our nifty new Community beta section (which I've been pimping because it's great), and I like your style. Love for Aliens, Ebert, AND admitting you cried in Titanic? Awesome. :) (Reply to this) |

GST writes: on Jul 01 2009 05:24 PM In reply to this comment (#2520179) Really? Yes! I would have been ashamed to call myself a Japanophile had I been wrong. But this reminds me, do people ever make dumb jokes about your name and you working at RT, you know, "Yamato" "tomato", something stupid like that? 4th gen? Really? Interesting. Ever had Sukiyaki? Its my absolute favorite Japanese dish, ever. Oh my! Well, first you should see the first original 1954 japanese "Gojira" its wonderful, and despite bad special effects, is a powerful and serious film (PLEASE! Use english subtitles on this one). Its also great to see how they went from mirroring Hiroshima to having godzilla fight a gigantic furry rainbow colored moth. Anyway, now for the horrible ones, Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Godzilla vs, Gigan, Godzilla vs. Megalon, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, Godzilla vs. King Gidorah, Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992 one!), Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla, and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. All of those are just horrible, and I think either Mecha II's, or Space Godzilla's ending had me laughing so hard I was *crying*. Oh, and I cant forget Mothra! Basically you need to see the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy, its like the opposite of LOTR trilogy. Oh, and on all the other godzilla/mothra movies I mentioned, use the english dubs, it makes it even better/worse. HAHA! Well, you're right. It actually does make me want to see it more, I want to see how they can talk so fondly of it (contractual obligation?) when its supposed to be as bad as it is. (then we're good.) Aww, thanks! I'm glad you accepted my friend request, it makes me feel cool! I agree, I do like the new RT Community Beta, I don't understand why so many people didn't/don't like it (well, not so many, but ya know). Yes, ha! I was so afraid about admitting Titanic, but men can cry too! And I know how many people deride it, but dammit, Its part of my childhood, and Jack and Rose shall forever go on in my* heart! *sniffles* BTW, thanks for following me on twitter! I feel like so much less of a loser! (Reply to this) |
