Movie Info

When the police cannot prosecute heinous crimes effectively, some very brave men will do their jobs for them, this film seems to say. Carlo (Franco Nero) gets in the way of a group of crooks who are trying to rob a bank, and they mutilate him horribly for his trouble. When the police cannot quite manage to find these thugs, Carlo goes after them himself.

Audience Reviews for Street Law

I'm a fan of Italian crime films and this one is one of the best I've seen. Mostly for its action, Enzo G. Castellari pulled out some amazing stuntwork from his crew (the car vs. hero scene is mind-blowing) which goes great with the De Angelis score. Franco Nero's portrayal of an average man who feels emasculated (rightly so, he's a bit of a dork) by the criminal world is pretty well handled, giving it a Death Wish ripoff flavor but then treating it with the kind of realism you'd probably expect of a guy who is truly terrified of the situation he's going through. He has no training, no skills, and the movie takes place over the course of maybe a couple of months. He's not exactly gonna whip out the machinegun and kill everybody easy as pie in the final shoot-out, ya know what I mean?

If you're only going to watch one 1970s Italian crime flick, I'd say go for this one or Fernando Di Leo's Manhunt (La Mala Ordinia).
