Critic Review - Chicago Reader

Writer-director J.J. Abrams overloads this sci-fi adventure with so many homages to his co-producer Steven Spielberg that it plays like the elder director's greatest hits, minus his characteristic scares and sense of wonder.

Hmm yeah I would probably see E.T. over this or other classic Spielberg films, but if that is your criteria for rating then pretty much every mainstream film would fall short. EVERYTHING WOULD SUCK. EVEN NEW SPIELBERG MOVIES.

JUDGE THE MOVIE AS IT'S OWN MOVIE. Yeah it's not E.T. but it's better than crap you gave good ratings too. "...so many homages to his co-producer Steven Spielberg." In case you hadn't noticed Spielberg revolutionized adventure films and this was an adventure film. Like I said not an all-time great, but not a BAD movie. Idiot.

Im with you on this Andrea, felt totally let down. I liked the 'Goonies' like chemistry between the cast but other than that...i thought this film to be boring and empty!:(
