Picture Gallery of the Week: Survival of the Dead

Diary of the Dead was unwatchable, so I don't have the highest hopes for Georgie boy's next flick, Survival of the Dead. His explorations on rehabilitating zombies can be somewhat interesting, but he's been doing this for decades now, and with diminishing returns. Considering the last 10 years brought us some real new classics of the zombie genre, I'm hoping Romero locks down the concept once and for all with this one. Browse the gallery.

Poster of the Week: Toy Story 3

Now it's a party. I'm still nervous about Toy Story 3 (especially since the trailer seems to give away the whole plot), but this new poster injects a nice dosage of fun. View the poster.

Video of the Week: A Nightmare on Elm Street trailer

This would've been last week's video of the week except it got released right after I published on Friday. How this will turn up is anyone's guess at this point, but Jackie Earle Haley looks like he gives Freddy some serious menace. Now that Jigsaw's a parody, cool to have a horror villain back that knows how to spit out a venomous line. Watch the video.

Wow another Diary of the Dead was "unwatchable" comment, how original. Yay for watching movies and having subjective opinions.

I'm extremely psyched for Toy Story 3. The new trailer does seem to give away a lot, though. I still think we'll be in for some surprises, regardless. I'm not going to look at any more new clips, though, if any are released. I've already seen too much (the clip that was released, the first theatrical trailer, and the second one, as well as the UK trailer). My plan going into this was to not spoil any of Toy Story 3 for myself, but I've found it too hard to resist. I successfully managed to not spoil much of WALL-E or UP for myself, but it's been hard with Toy Story 3.

It's funny how a movie that scored a respectable (although admittedly not great) 60% on the tomatometer is written in as "unwatchable" here. Even with a consensus like this:

Consensus: As Diary of the Dead proves, time hasn't subdued George A. Romero's affection for mixing politics with gore, nor has it given him cinematic grace or subtlety.

Since I'm assuming that this is just the writers opinion, it would be in good taste to make sure they specify that, and not just state it as fact. There are brainless people who would just automatically consider that as the general consensus and bypass a movie that according to to RT's own figures 67% or critics, and 61% of the RT community liked.

But that's just my opinion. Coupled with a little of RT's own stats.

I have not seen anything for Toy Story 3, and I refuse to until it opens in theaters!

I really envy you. I should have stayed away from the trailers. =)

great .... it`s supposed to be a remake of nightmare on elm street , not total copy /knock-off of the original . 30 million dollars pissed away on this heap of crap.

Wonderful, a remake of a classic, just what..I never wanted. Ugh, from what I have skimped of both the trailer and the script this is going to be another crappy movie. I believe when a movies takes a look at the original and 'scoffs' then you have a problem.

I'm with you, "Toy Story 3" has me worried since the last trailer.

Love that new Toy Story 3 poster! I'm so excited for this movie, I've wanted it for probably my whole life. I just hope it becomes as successful as any other Pixar film, I hope it gets 100% just like the first two. It's a movie that really deserves to be made.
BTW everyone, check out some of my reviews!

Mr. Dufresne

Mr. Dufresne on 03-8-2010 01:06 PM

Luxo Jr., as much as I want it to get a 100 percent, I doubt it will, because even if it is a very good movie, there are a lot more movie reviewers now than there were with the first two Toy Story films, and someone is almost guaranteed not to like it. That said, I predict (if it is a quality film) that it'll have anything from a 96% to a 98%. If it truly is as good as the first two, however, then it just might be 100%; it's hard for anybody to dislike those movies.

NO joke: last night I had a horrible dream that Toy Story 3 scored an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. That score is decent for any other movie, but for a Toy Story movie, that's horrible (both 1 and 2 are at 100%)!
