Five Favorite Films with George A. Romero

The Grandfather of the Zombie stops by The Rotten Tomatoes Show.

Since the release of Night of the Living Dead in 1968, George A. Romero has been earning his reputation as "The Grandfather of the Zombie." And over the past forty years, Romero has given zombies life on the big screen in films like Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and Land of the Dead. In his latest effort, the ironically titled Survival of the Dead, Romero continues building on the reputation that has been his Hollywood trademark.

With a very diverse list of films that acted as inspirations for his horror classics, Romero stopped by The Rotten Tomatoes Show on Current to share his favorite movies. Check them out in the video below!

How is this predictable? A horror director picking a P&P opera, a Shakespeare film, one of Hawks' least popular films, and a John Ford drama. And On The Waterfront. I would have expected much different things from a notorious gorehound!

I agree - his picks are unpredicatable for his five favorites was different at least five years ago! His reasons are self - explanatory though!

I think his picks are only predictable if you take into account the fact that they are all films that he would have grown up with, other than that I agree with kevinrnash.

I highly recommend "Othello" to anyone that is turned on by visuals. I'm not a Shakespeare guy AT ALL (I usually turn on the subtitles just to understand what people are saying), but this movie is gorgeous to look at. If you're into stuff like Dreyer's Joan of Arc, then you should definitely give Othello a try.

That is incorrect and if you bother to look at his filmography- he's made some horror films that're not affiliated with zombies in them such as "Martin" and "Knightriders" and the original "The Crazies" which are good non- zombie films!
