It's all just so trite and predictable.

This teen psychodrama directed by John Polson plays like a Generation Y version of FATAL ATTRACTION. Ben Cronin (Jesse Bradford) is a high school swimmer with an incredibly promising future. On the verge of securing a scholarship to Stanford, and in love with the too-good-to-be-true Amy (Shiri Appleby), Ben seems to have it all. But the arrival of a new student threatens to ruin everything Ben has worked so hard to attain. Temptation arrives in the form of Madison Bell (Erika Christiansen), a beautiful, sultry cellist whose overt sexuality is too much for Ben too handle. In a fit of passion, he succumbs to her advances, but is immediately wracked with guilt. Trying to eradicate his mistake before it can escalate any further, Ben confronts Madison. To his dismay, he discovers that she has formed an abnormally strong attachment to him. Soon, Ben has been accused of taking steroids, fired from his hospital job, and targeted by the police for trying to kill Amy. With the help of friends, Ben must find a way to expose Madison and stop her reign of terror. Polson's entertaining film is fueled by an amped hard rock soundtrack and Louis Febre's moody score. Reviews for Swimfan
The stars may be college kids, but the subject matter is as adult as you can get: the temptations of the flesh are unleashed by a slightly crazed, overtly determined young woman and a one-night swim turns into an ocean of trouble.
This is a movie trying to convince you it's suspenseful when it's actually anything but.
Amounts to little more than a waterlogged teenage version of Fatal Attraction.
Like its script, which nurses plot holes gaping enough to pilot an entire Olympic swim team through, the characters in Swimfan seem motivated by nothing short of dull, brain-deadening hangover.
It's like going to a house party and watching the host defend himself against a frothing ex-girlfriend. You don't want to call the cops. You want to call Domino's.
One of these days Hollywood will come up with an original idea for a teen movie, but until then there's always these rehashes to feed to the younger generations.
Not really a thriller so much as a movie for teens to laugh, groan and hiss at.
Flat performances and a cumbersome plot keep the flame low on this crude teen potboiler.
If you're 16 or under, you might get a real charge out of Swimfan. Anyone over that age is likely to experience a crushing case of deja vu.
Producer John Penotti surveyed high school students...and came back with the astonishing revelation that "they wanted to see something that didn't talk down to them." Ignoring that, he made Swimfan anyway
The story may not be new, but Australian director John Polson, making his American feature debut, jazzes it up adroitly.
