Perhaps "Switch's" greatest strength is in giving us enough information to try to come up with better questions of our own.

Exhaustive and exhausting, the new energy documentary "Switch" is so monotonous it makes "An Inconvenient Truth" look like "Armageddon."

A methodical, occasionally remedial survey of the energy crisis and its possible solutions, Switch fits a subject often treated polemically into a more benign, continuing education mold.

"Switch," a thorough and sober-minded documentary about the past, present and future of energy, is refreshingly free of hot air.

Switch educates in the manner of a made-for-classroom film... the approach is a little too "balanced" to please anyone on any side of the issue.

Possibly the driest and most balanced documentary on the current energy crisis.

Audience Reviews for Switch

"Switch", while not a propaganda film (it has it's facts firmly rooted in science, and commendably does not delve too deeply into things from a political standpoint), is an average attempt to convey a very important and misunderstood concept - basically that of energy consumption.

The film, directed by Harry Lynch (despite what the Rotten Tomatoes profile claims) attempts to clear the fog surrounding these issues, and give a balanced view on energy and what needs to be done.

Unfortunately, despite a likeable narrator in Dr Scott Tinker, this film just tried to convey too much, and doesn't do it with enough conviction, resulting in a 90 minute lecture that could leave the audience tired or bored if they had no interest in the subject matter.

There's nothing to hate about the film, but to complete it's aims, it needed to be better.

Switch, with its high production values and casual, easy presentation, is a very sophisticated propaganda film. What cannot be accomplished using facts and reason, is accomplished by lulling the viewer into trusting the narrator, getting folks upset about fracking (rightfully so), and making nuclear power feel safe by mentioning people's fears and tossing out 2 random reassuring facts. If you don't believe me, bring a pad and paper and write down the reasoned arguments in favor of nuclear power, and then listen to the comments of the viewing audience afterward.
