...Seasons 1-7 of the Disney Channel's early '90s turn-of-the-century Canadian family drama, "Avonlea"...which just happens to be my own personal holy grail of DVD sets. [center] [/center] I'd forgotten for years how great the show was -- spun off from Lucy Maud Montgomery's "Anne of Green Gables" book series --
and that I'd spent many of my own childhood years watching each rustic, Irish fiddle-infused episode just waiting, waiting for Gus Pike and Felicity King to finally get together (they get married in the season 7 series finale). And last month, when we ran into Sarah Polley at the Nice airport in line to board a flight to Cannes (where she, former child star on Avonlea, was serving on the Cannes Jury as a now-accomplished actress and director), the only thing I said to her was that I loved, loved, loved Avonlea and where can I get the DVD? No wonder she gave me a super polite, suprised response...the DVDs have been out since 2002. My bad. In any case, I must have them. Too bad that means parting, eventually, with over $500 -- since each of the seven seasons costs $80! Half a freaking grand. Enough to buy 25 new DVDs, a drum machine, a purebred english bulldog puppy, a radio-wave facial, a PS3, a bottle or two of Cristal, a 1986 Chevy Celebrity Station Wagon, or a thousand cans of Hunid Racks, the Energy Drink For the Real Hustlers.
