Television viewers got a fright in 1989, when TALES FROM THE CRYPT made the transition from EC comic book to TV show. Hosted by the Cryptkeeper, each episode of the show offered a new, ghoulish tale for the audience to sink their teeth (or fangs) into. The show originated on HBO, and every episode from the fourth season is included here. It was such a success that myriad CRYPT-inspired spin-offs resulted, including an animated series, several feature films, and seemingly infinite merchandising

These supposed 'immoral' tales were actually quite moral since few of the murderers in them ever got away with any of their crimes and were always punished for them.
On the whole Tales from the Crypt: Season Four has a nagging tendency to disappoint.
Audience Reviews for Tales from the Crypt - The Complete Fourth Season
The Tales from the Crypt was an evening series that aired on HBO from 1989-1996. This seven season series was based on the EC Horror Comic Book series that first appeared in the 1950s. These short films were original and well contrived. The casts and directors chosen to deliver these stories were amazing and well selected. The team of Joel Silver, Walter Hill, and Robert Zemeckis deserve a lot of credit for the success of this series.

William Gaines, writer of Tales from the Crypt (1972), The Vault or Horror (1973), W.I.E.R.D. World (1995), and Bordello of Blood, delivers Tales from the Crypt. William Gaines, unfortunately, passed away before he could see the full run of his well-written television series. Gaines was allowed to provide a lot of input in these films that were contrived by his scripts. Gaines originally created three episodes which were scheduled to be aired as a movie; however, the production team decided to air the episodes as part of a television series. The series did so well that the three episodes transformed into a seven season television run.

The Tales from the Crypt episodes were amongst my favorite television series when I was in junior high. This series was so popular by the fourth season that it grabbed the attention and participation of Tom Hanks, Joe Pesci, Brad Pitt, Beverly D?Angelo, Christopher Reeves, Timothy Dalton, and Margott Kidder. Every Halloween HBO used to air 8 straight hours of Tales from the Crypt episodes that I used to record on VHS. I could watch those episodes over and over. I currently have 6 of the 7 seasons on DVD and cannot wait to obtain the last set. Tales from the Crypt is a must own for true fans of the horror classics.
