Then a relative tells them the Icelandic legend of Einar, the Lonely... In a small fishing village in Iceland a smallpox plague has disfigures its victims' faces. Einar and his fellow patient, Gunnar, sit in a quarantined hospital room. Attempting to evoke sympathy from one another, the men exchange confessional stories about past misdeeds. Gunnar claims he murdered his wife by infecting her with the pestilence. Einar says he once robbed a grave and profaned its beautiful inhabitant. As they reveal more about themselves, the men learn they have something in common -- something very ugly. This tape also includes a short film by Guy Maddin, "The Dead Father." [More]
