Box Office Guru Wrapup: Tangled Takes Crown Over Weak Frame

Summary

The annual post-turkey blues kicked in as the North American box office plunged with the Top 20 dropping by 53% from last week's Thanksgiving holiday. The action entry The Warrior's Way was the only new wide release and was dead on arrival landing in ninth place. Last weekend's top two choices swapped positions as all films suffered steep declines. Overall, ticket sales slumped to the second lowest point of 2010 as moviegoers found almost nothing to be excited about or worth paying top dollar for. Outside of the top two films, no wide release averaged more than $2,500 this weekend. Back to Article

Where was Part 1 showing in 3D? That's just for part 2, the 3-D plans for Part 1 were scrapped.

Yeah, no 3D for HP and no surprise at all from it's tragectory. The 6 previous films did almost this exact same things. There are few things more consistant in film than a HP film release. Unless it's the inevitable debate over said release and shock over how well/poor it's perceived as doing.

Don't look now, but the opening day audience for an event film like this is not restricted to what people like to call "fanboys". There are plenty of casual moviegoers who went to see DH part 1 on opening day.

DH part 1 is at 88% among RT users, and has an 8.0 score on IMDb. It's not dropping because of word of mouth. It's dropping because that's just what movies like this do, and have done for years.

I was thinking the same thing. The guys last film won Best Picture so I would assume, wrongly I guess, that this would have gotten a wide release too.

Maybe Christmas?
