  • Teaching Mrs. Tingle
  • Written and directed by Kevin Williamson (SCREAM, SCREAM 2, TV's DAWSON'S CREEK), TEACHING MRS. TINGLE is a cool, cutting-edge comedy starring Hollywood's hottest young talent! Leigh Ann Watson (Katie Holmes -- TV's DAWSON'S CREEK, GO, DISTURBING BEHAVIOR) is the brightest girl at Grandsboro High ... but her dreams of a much-needed college scholarship are sabotaged when her history teacher, the dreaded Mrs. Tingle (Helen Mirren -- CALENDAR GIRLS), falsely accuses her of cheating! Desperate to prove her innocence, Leigh Ann conspires with her friends Luke (Barry Watson -- SORORITY BOYS) and Jo Lynn on a scheme that will teach Mrs. Tingle a lesson of her own! Before they know it, however, their plan spins hilariously out of control ... and becomes an endless comedy of errors! Also featuring Vivica A. Fox (KILL BILL VOLUME 1) and Molly Ringwald (SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE) -- you're sure to delight in all the fun and thrills of this hip movie treat!

The movie needs a few more ideas and a lot more thrills to excite viewers, whether young or old.

The moral to the story, if any, is rather vague, as are Mrs. Tingle's motives.

Beyond Mirren's performance, there's not really much reason to see this film.

Kevin Williamson’s revenge fantasy rests upon the reasonable assumption that everyone has entertained homicidal fantasies about some especially obnoxious teacher.

Williamson rarely gets beyond the schematic, arbitrary nature of the characters' relationships.

Teaching Mrs. Tingle an ugly, failed attempt to pull off a Heathers - style, teen - oriented black comedy.

Teaching Mrs. Tingle reveals Williamson not only to be as accomplished a director as he is a writer but also his willingness to move beyond horror to psychological suspense.

Williamson breaks a cardinal rule of good writing: Audiences will play by any rules you choose to establish, but you can't change them in the bottom of the ninth inning.
