The sin of "Ted" is not that it is offensive but that it is boring, lazy and wildly unoriginal. If Triumph the Insult Comic Dog ever got a hold of Ted, there would be nothing left but a pile of fluff and a few scraps of fur.
Comedy is by far the hardest genre to critique, because different things are funny to different people. However, to say "wildly unoriginal" is so far wrong that it almost entitles some of the slightly more aggressive comments. It makes no sense to me to absolutely slate a comedy, because people have completely different tastes.
And @Johnny W: how do you know that he knows more about movies than everyone else combined - being a critic is not knowing movies; its knowing how to review and write about them, and I'm afraid this time the review hasn't worked (altough this a rare occurrance for someone like AO Scott).
What is wrong with calling this film unoriginal? Plenty of other critics have called it that. You really think the bromance vs romance plot is new? And A.O Scott is one of the best critics of our time. He probably does know more about movies and while I did enjoy this movie I understand and appreciate Scott;'s review.
Ok good, A.O. Scott hates it time to go see it thanks again for being a pompus ass. Your reviews are so helpfull to myself, you hate it I go and see it. And lets see you hate, pretty much everything so thanks again keep up the sub par work ass.
Boring? The movie is fast-paced, with new things popping up frequently. Lazy? Not too sure what you mean here... wildly unoriginal?????? the idea of a weed-smoking, drinking, offensive and hilarious teddy bar has NEVER been done before!!
I can see how a racist, drunken hilarious teddy bear that talks and has sex is completely unoriginal. There are just hundreds of those movies about, right?
