Who's Up for Some More "TMNT"?
It didn't do all that much box office business, but I know a lot of "Turtle" fans who really liked the new-fangled "TMNT" movie. So what's up with the sequel?
According to one source, a "TMNT" follow-up is looking more and more likely: "As of two weeks ago Imagi Entertainment (the TMNT movie animation studio) informed Mirage Studios that there was a 50-50 chance of a CGI film sequel. Last week they upped the odds to 70-30 in favor of a sequel, as talks between Imagi and their distribution partners Warner Brothers and the Weinstein Group seem to be heading in a positive direction...."

In North America "TMNT" did about $54 million (which is actually pretty solid for a movie like this, so forget what I said earlier) and another $38 million overseas -- with DVD sales sure to be pretty decent.
So what say the fans? You guys ready for another "TMNT"?

![]() on Jun 29 2007 08:56 AM ....why? Hollywood is growing completely out of touch with critics and moviegoers. Why? Why a sequel for TMNT, (tomatometer 39%) while perfectly good movies like Slither (tomatometer 84%) flop and make neither money nor sequels? (Reply to this) |

on Jun 29 2007 09:11 AM I really enjoyed the movie and will definately be purchasing the dvd. I would absolutely go see a sequel. And I totally agree about bringing back Shredder. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 29 2007 10:08 AM TMNT was a very fun take on the turtles done to be child friendly but entertaining for the old school fans. And if I remember correctly the production budget was a little less then $40 million so really it did fairly solid numbers and it's video sales that can sometimes make these kid friendly movies bank. Anyway I enjoyed the first one, will probably rent it again and will look forward to a second one. I would hope there would be a story line that would make a little more sense but I'm a realist... and yeah Shredder and the foot need to come back. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 29 2007 10:13 AM it was pretty good. the animation was awesome and the action was amazing! the writing could've used a little work tho. id really like to see a tmnt 2 written by the writng staff of "surfs up" (Reply to this) |

on Jun 29 2007 10:22 AM In reply to this comment (#871833) Which begs the question: What does "Slither" have to do with TMNT? That's like comparing Memento to X:2. Not quite a fit. Point is that while Slither may well have been a praiseworthy film, it bears no comparison in genre, style, or demographic to the film in question. Different standard=entirely different discussion. on Jun 29 2007 10:32 AM I forced some buddies of mine to see TMNT with me and we all dug it. The sequel needs to make 2 adjustments and I'll be completely happy: 1. Make the villains characters we actually know (preferably untapped prospects that haven't seen their day in the sun like KRANG!). Shredder is cool but does he really have to be in EVERY movie? I liked the approach TMNT took with villains, it's just ashame that their villains sort of, well, sucked. 2. Rework the CGI humans. They looked a bit too much like anorexic rip-offs of The Incredibles for me. ..oh, and the score. I'd like to see a better score for it as well. The first one's was a bit too generic. Three adjustments then :) (Reply to this) |

on Jun 29 2007 10:45 AM I'd pay to see a sequel, especially with the shredder back. Seeing beebop and rocksteady would be pretty fun too. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 29 2007 10:59 AM Personally, I don't wanna see the same villains come back again. They defeated The Shredder. Bring on someone bigger and badder. Show me some escalation. Let Mikey do some growing up for a change. Raph and Leo should be over their beef by now so definitely not more of that. And yes, somebody give Casey and April something to eat before they disappear. ![]() on Jun 29 2007 11:50 AM I loved TMNT, and I would love to see a sequel. Especially is old shred head is involved! (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jun 29 2007 12:11 PM TMMT 2 I really don't care as much. I'll probably watch it if there's some hardcore turtle reproduction scene, but that's just me.... (Reply to this) |
