Tekken Adaptation Finds Its Lead

Luke Goss to play martial arts rebel Steve Fox.

As an actor, Luke Goss has historically been a man of many sequels (Blade II, Hellboy II: The Golden Army), but for his next project, he'll be joining a franchise on the ground floor.

ComingSoon reports (via Goss' official site) that Goss has signed on to play Steve Fox in Crystal Sky Pictures' forthcoming Tekken videogame adaptation. From the article:

Directed by Dwight Little, Tekken is a futuristic martial arts action film based on the best-selling Japanese video game from Namco. The film plays out as a science fiction story set in the near future, about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people.

Before devoting himself full-time to acting, Goss was one-half of the popular '80s pop duo Bros. Though largely ignored in the States, Bros notched 11 Top 40 singles in the UK between 1987 and 1991.

It would be great to see these films work, the MK reboot, Tekken, and (yeah, I know) Street Fighter. If for no other reason to help along the possibility of a strong, serious take on Soul Calibur.

Hopefully with this going a bit of the sci-fi route it may do better than MK or Suck Fighter did....although I did actually really love the first MK that came out. Then again, I was like 14-15 when that came out I believe....

this movie is really going to shift the paradigm. seriously, i think THIS is the video game adaptation we've all been waiting for. it'll be the first of its kind to step up and really be a great film.

Scrap this and make Luke Goss one of those squiggly pieces that you never need in the Tetris adaptation.

Yea, at least Streetfighter's animated movie was good (anyone remember that Chun Li fight? WOW!) The only think Tekken has going for it is the game, with probably the most open ended, non committal plot in the history of fighting games. And that is saying a lot considering most fighting games don't have a plot beyond the fact that there is a tournament where "the greatest fighters in the world" congregate. Oh wait, that is the plot of Tekken....

How does a game that only concerned itself with graphics and fighting mechanics become a movie? They were avatars, NOT characters.

Between this and Mortal Kombat I am befuddled. The young male teen demographic doesn't care about these franchises... why are they doing this?

Who the hell is Steve Fox? What about Paul Phoenix, Law, Jack, King, or Kazuya? Heichachi? Lei? Eddie? We're off to a great start adapting a video game when we're making up our own characters or at least choosing someone less known other than a big name. At least it's not as terrible as what happened to Wanted.

Good question. I sub middle and high schools and haven't found a single teenager yet who even knows what Tekken is. And to second WeaponAndy, when the hell did Steve Fox become a flagship character?
