Fred Astaire looks as if he has just rolled out of his tomb, and Gene Kelly sports a toupee that looks borrowed from Howard Cosell for the occasion.

It had to be looser in its thematic compilations but the essential wealth of the clips is so overwhelming that the structure of its presentation is sufficient and satisfying.

There are so many marvelous moments available in the MGM pantheon that a second film, acknowledging the first and thriving off it, can resonate the first film's appeal.

It's more fluid, with fewer interruptions of the material, and several segments cover purely speaking segments rather than just song and dance.
