Most films bearing the title The Black Cat claim that their inspiration was the Edgar Allen Poe short story. This 1966 British Black Cat does not make that claim; still, it is closer in spirit to the Poe original than any previous adaptation. Robert Frost (not the poet!) plays a confused young man who believes that his hated and recently deceased father has been reincarnated as a black cat.
