Movie Info

This satirical parody of William S. Hart's melodramatic films finds Buster in the frozen north, "last stop on the subway." He uses a wanted poster as his partner in robbing a gambling house. When he thinks he spies his wife making love to another man he shoots them both only to learn it isn't his cabin after all.

Audience Reviews for The Frozen North

Keaton gets himself into all kinds of messes out in the frozen north. Pretty funny, but it could've been funnier.

A strange short for Keaton, with a lot of distasteful gags. He's the same vulnerable little man with the blank expression, but he's not a "good guy" at all this time. Some cute humor involving snowshoes...not much else. The opening sight gag ("Last stop on the subway") is more clever than almost everything that follows.

"The Frozen North" is another of the Short Films Collection running from 1920-1923 before Keaton got into feature lengths and runs at 17 minutes. The film isn't near the top of his works but has some funny gags including the fishing scene and some of the stories black humor is super dark until the ending reveals that it was a dream. This is definitely on the darker side as Buster plays "The Bad Man" and is seen in a different light, hence the ending. Worth a watch in order to see Buster in a different role than he was used to doing.
