Movie Info

Kenneth More portrays a British gunsmith who travels to the American West. After winning a rigged poker game, More is appointed sheriff of Fractured Jaw, a wide-open town where law officers are plugged and planted on a regular basis. Audience Reviews for The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw

One of Jayne's better efforts, cute comedy nothing earth shaking but a pleasant way to wile away a few hours.

Kenneth More does his affable eccentric Englishman abroad as a gunsmith who inevitably becomes mistaken for a gunslinger during a range war. If film comedy were to be believed, there wasn't a real sheriff to be found in the whole of the west; Wyatt Earp probably really did pet shampoos. It's purely by the numbers stuff, as More woos Jayne Mansfield while inadvertently foiling the stereotypical cowpokes in what is essentially a Carry On film without the innuendo (Sid James even puts in an appearance as the town drunk). The only real surprise is that Mansfield became such a star; her uninspired musical interludes were dubbed by Connie Francis and she sure as hell can't act. Bob Hope and Jane Russell did this routine a whole lot better 10 years earlier in The Paleface films.
