Audience Reviews for The Short Films of David Lynch

Some very, very strange shorts and art installations. If you though David Lynch was crazy now, it's toned down compared to his college days. It's interesting to see a lot of his earlier work and see what inspired such a genius behind the camera. This really acts as a documentary on the side too in that you get to hear the stories behind each project. It's really unfair to rate this as a movie, because it's not. These are all extremely fascinating projects and I think any Lynch fan will like them.

½

An undead black and white grandmother turns into a tree and bleeds for her grandson. Six faces on the wall spew panic-vile six times with a wailing siren. A video of draining an amputee's leg and changing bandages. A creepy alphabet lesson from a nightmarish Sesame Street episode. A cheery cartoonish promotional Frenchman meets some cowboys and we are treated to a ballad. There are a few familiar faces. Interesting and some disturbing images. The Lynch guy has artistic talent, and you can see it carried forward to his feature films.

I was pretty sure I had already reviewed this and placed it on my favorite films list. Apparently not.

Anyways, this is required watching for all Lynchites and I love all the films in this collection. Lynch provides some necessary commentary on how each of these films came about, which I found to be quite inspirational to young film-makers and revelatory about how Lynch perceives his ascent into a productive film career.
