Five Favorite Films with Harry Shearer

Summary

If Harry Shearer isn't a household name, he really should be. The well-rounded entertainer has focused his talents on film, on radio, in music, and on television, among others. Among his many credits are roles in This is Spinal Tap, Saturday Night Live, and The Simpsons, for which he voices such popular characters as Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, and Principal Skinner. This evening (Monday, August 30th), Shearer's latest directorial project, The Big Uneasy, a documentary about the truth behind the New Orleans catastrophe during Hurricane Katrina, engages a special one-night screening in theaters across the country on the five-year anniversary of the tragedy. Shearer was kind enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to give his Five Favorite Films and talk about his film. Read on for the full interview! Back to Article

Meh? Really? These obviously matter to him. Certainly he did not list them simply to try to impress you. These were important to his development. I'm sure your top 5 would garner a resounding "meh" from all here, and you're not even important.

No complaints here, Dr. Strangelove is also one of my favorites, if not my favorite movie.

I wonder what his Simpson characters favourite films would be?

Mr Burns- Probably something with Lilian Gish. I'm pretty sure he had a crush on her.

Principle Skinner- Goodbye Mr. Chips, perhaps.

Ned Flanders- I reckon it would be It's A Wonderful Life. Or maybe A Streetcar Named Desire, which he acted in a stage play.

Lilian Gish was beautiful even though most of the movies I've seen her in involved blunt racist stereotypes. I guess I'm old fashioned.

If your refering to Birth Of A Nation, then no arguments there. Remember though she was in the classic Night Of The Hunter. I also liked Orphans Of A Storm in which her sister also appeared in.

What's with Dr. Strangelove? Other four are romance and comedy. Somehow Dr. Strangelove just doesn't fit. If I were to pick anything in the political, I'd go with the Fail Safe movie. Laurel & Hardy, I'd pick March of the Wooden Soldiers. Who was funny back in the 60s that wasn't in Mad etc World? I just wish Red Skelton had a bigger part.
