Burton, don't get me wrong did a good job, but he copied the hippie Batman series from the 60's to be a little more modern. So it was the Sweeney Todd version without singing, in other words too theatrical. The Dark Knight is realistic and the real approach to the original comics. While the Adam West version was made for kids,the Dark Knight is the true Batman put on screen. So critics shouldn't say that they don't like it because it's too serious because Batman is supposed to be serious from the very beginning.
