A Few Cast Additions as "The Dark Knight" Shoots in Chicago
by Scott Weinberg | April 23, 2007
Discuss Article
It's official: The sequel to "Batman Begins," which is (of course) called "The Dark Knight," has begun production in Chicago. Also, a few new actors have joined the cast...

According to sources, "The Dark Knight" is now doing "pre-production filming" in Chicago. The production will spend six days in the Windy City before jetting over to London to do almost all of the movie. Those pics you saw last week (the blurry ones of Heath Ledger as The Joker) were from Chi-town, which is where part of a bank robbery sequence is being shot.

Regarding cast, fans of character actor William Fichtner will be happy to know that he's been cast as a bank manager. (If you don't recognize the name, I bet you know the guy from movies like "Armageddon," "Go," "Ultraviolet," and "Blades of Glory.") Also, Joker's gang will be portrayed by actors Michael Stoyanov, William Smiley, and Matthew O'Neil.

here's another update...
Ain't It Cool has a pic of the Joker's makeup test. i don't think it's Heath under the makeup, but that's why it's a makeup TEST.

there's also another "proof of concept" makeup test shot here:

and of course, the Ain't It Cool Talkbackers are already bitching about it, just like they bitch about everything under the fucking sun. i personally think the makeup is looking damn good, a lot more "real" than Nicholson's prosthetic perma-smile. the mouth scars are a little too much though, but i can't wait to see Heath in the makeup, grinning like a psychopath.

I love Fichtner, that's damn cool that he's going to be in this film. To bad he doesn't have a bigger role.

Walked past the shooting site today after class. They weren't shooting anything yet but had the streets blocked off at Van Buren and Canal and were filming at the ex-post office across the street from Union Station. Of course no one would tell me that the movie was being filmed there. I asked three people and they all said, "No." Looks like security is tight as hell around that area. While I was asking one person I was looking up at this torn down Post Office sign and saw Gotham National Bank. They probably will shoot at early morning, night, or tommorow. Tommorow it is going to rain so they probably picked the perfect day for it. Yeah and they are still adding to the set. I'll try to get some pictures tommorow.

I've seen those test pics of Ledger, and while I have doubts that it actually is him...the face is close but a little off...the makeup looks fantastic. Gritty. Real. Of course, it all makes sense because in the real work a psycho might actually slice his own face trying to make a permanent smile. Damn good stuff.

That test make-up looks pretty creepy. I like the "sunken" mouth scars.
