New Pic of Heath Ledger as the Joker
And boy, does he need some professional help with his makeup
by Binh Ngo | July 27, 2007
Discuss Article
It appears IGN Movies has solved the riddle left by Warner Bros. on the teaser site promoting the next Batman movie, The Dark Knight. As the reward, we get to see not only Heath Ledger as the Joker, but also a video teaser of the movie as well.

The Dark Knight is the sequel to the series reboot, Batman Begins, starring Christian Bale as the masked crusader. Bale and Ledger will be joined by Maggie Gyllenhaal (Rachel Dawes), Gary Oldman (Lt. Gordon), Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent), and, of course, Michael Caine (Alfred). The movie is scheduled for a summer 2008 release.

So his skin isn't dyed entirely white? Is it simply makeup that he applies to his face? It clearly doesn't extend beyond just under his chin...

He sounds eerily like Jack Nicholson.

Love this interpretation, and even more do I love the Ichi the Killer-esque tones of his mouth.

He doesn't sound like Jack to me. His voice sounds more like wacko from the Animaniacs. And I think his skin does dye white....these are probably pictures that are taken before he becomes the real joker....who knows....I love how they are slowly letting things be seen....incredible advertising. Who ever is in charge of it nees a huge freakin bonus!

It isn't Nicholson you idiots. Maybe "Worduh", but it's obvious he was mocking Harvey with that. *Rolleyes*

How is that obvious?

The only thing that is obvious is that Ledger is trying to do Nicholson.

Not bad, As a massive batfan i am still excited but still sceptiacal, he doesnt look as dark n creepy as when we first saw that first sinister viral pic we saw. also, his hair is lacking a bit of greenery, maybe its just the shot though.

But, am still stoked for this film. And he does have a slight Nicholson accent goin on, BUT Whats wrong with that? Jack Nicholsons joker was still incredible! Oscar worthy at least! coming to think of it, didnt he win an oscar for that role? Nicholson tackled the joker perfectly, he was at times funny, at times psychopathic and at times sinister. Perfect.

I hope this Joker will be as good if not diffrent. Better will be a matter of opinion. lets wait n see.

for right now, bring it on!

I'm trying to abstain from the teaser until I watch The Simpsons Movie on Sunday. But it sounds cool from what you've all said!

His voice is very different, but Joker's voice should be over-the-top and I'm interested in what more Heath has to offer. And whether or not his skin is bleached or he applies make-up (though from what I've read so far, it's a mixture of both), I know that when it comes to the Nolan brothers, they've got a few tricks up their sleeves. As far as I'm concerned, everything is "not what it seems".

I strongly believe this'll not only be the best Batman film ever, but the best comic book movie ever.

first off, i saw simpsons and there was not DK trailer. lame.

second... WOW. i have been against heath as the joker from the beginning, but that was impressive. jack nicholsons was obviously amazing at the roll, and technically speaking, this is supposed to be a younger version of him, right? well he's got the look and the sound down. bravo.

I was sad that there was no DK trailer in front of my Simpsons viewing either (Simpsons by the way? Good movie! *gasp*)

Now to the matter at hand - Yuck... I guess I'm in the minority saying that 'that' isn't Joker. Why the heck does every movie iteration of Joker have something funky with the mouth? I never liked Jack Nicholson's version, and it appears Ledger's attempt is simply 'edgier'. Curses...

The Mark Hamil Joker is my own personal choice for the Clown Prince of Crime.

My perfect Joker?: Crispin Glover with Mark Hamil doing voice over. It's going to be hard as hell for the Nolans to convince me otherwise, though, if anyone were to do it it'd probably be them...

Well, it may not be what your ideal Joker is, but it doesn't mean that it isn't The Joker, period, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

It's... 'a' joker, I'm not down with saying it's, 'the' joker. That title (as of now) still belongs to Mark Hamil and his brilliant cartoon counterpart.

Who knows, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, but if Ledger's version turns out to be, "an edgier version of Jack's", I'm probably going to be let down a bit. I'm beginning to get a feel for the route the Nolans are taking with Joker, and although it fits perfectly with their Bat-World, I dunno how true to the actual character they'll be. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm just saying as of now, not nearly as impressed as most seem to be - and I don't blame an inch of that on Ledger, who seems to be doing what he can for the role. Just the way it is I suppose.

I was first (truly) introduced to Joker in the best version to date (imo), the cartoon. Nothing else has compared, at least in the film/tv dept.
