Warner Bros has released yet another new trailer for The Dark Knight, on a cross promotional website created by Dominos Pizza. First The Mummy 3, and now The Dark Knight? What’s up with the recent explosion in pizza promotions? The trailer is actually pretty good (unlike Dominos Pizza). The new trailer intercuts The Joker’s monologue (a pretty intense and cool moment from the film) over the usual clips from the movie. Head on over to The Dark Knight Vault and check out the new trailer in the movie extras section. Or watch it embedded below.

July 1st, 2008 at 1:10 am

Charles: Ledger no contest
July 1st, 2008 at 1:18 am
Oscar worthy performance in your opinion, Peter?
July 1st, 2008 at 1:24 am
I don’t see how he wouldn’t at least be nominated. As Hunter would say, its next levs.
There is not a moment where you even think that The Joker is anything less than a real maniac, nevermind just a character played by Heath Ledger.
July 1st, 2008 at 1:28 am
Sweet, hearing that from a source that I actually give two shits about is reassuring, I can’t wait to see this movie even more.

SPOILERS! Who watches trailers for a must-see film? TDK has enough hype (and trailers) now to beat Obama for the presidency. We need change!
July 1st, 2008 at 5:49 am
WOW, at first I hated the fact that a guy who played a gay
cowboy was going to be the Joker, but after seeing all these peviews
I am actually super excited to see this movie. The Joker looks super insane and I am sure will steal the movie, still looking to see
what two face looks like. Awsome cant wait.
July 1st, 2008 at 6:03 am
I like the shot of him and Lando Calrissian at the end by the bonfire.
July 1st, 2008 at 6:10 am
Ahh this is killing me! Please embed the video as the TV clips posted were so I can view this at work!!!!
July 1st, 2008 at 6:14 am
This is one of those movies that I cannot fathom what the experience will be like when I see it. I can’t imagine how it is going to go at all. Even with all the spoilers, hints and news I still feel like there is a big mystery to this film and the way it will play out.
July 1st, 2008 at 6:17 am
Um… I like Dominos Pizza…
July 1st, 2008 at 6:17 am
dude this aint a comic book movie anymore its come off the pages and its a beast of its own, i’m trying not to read anything more about it just like looking at the videos, and man does joker look like what the real life version would look like, seriously theres no cartooney anywhere that i can tell. the third movie would probably deal with his origin since it appears that this is a two face origin movie.
one point of speculation on my part is that the tumbler gets blown up because that would be the only reason for batman to get on a bike otherwise i dont see a point other than marketing for that.
and jack nicholson must be sleeping very unconfortably at night now that his joker is getting upstaged, but you never know they might get him to be the joker again for the next one he could pull it off as long as nolan is in charge and not let him overaact like burton did. but anyways i’m getting into hotwater so i’ll leave now peace.
July 1st, 2008 at 6:58 am
Hey Peter, enlighten me on something.
We’ve seen all of these TV Spots and trailers with identical lines, but different takes. It seems like the first ones we hear and see are MUCH more intense and amazing. Then we get a new trailer with alternate takes of this (i.e. “Good evening ladies and gentlemen. We are tonight’s entertainment” and “You’ve changed things, forever”) Which do we get in the movie? The better ones, or the slightly less insane ones.
July 1st, 2008 at 7:12 am
@razor1000
I doubt we would see Nicholson as the Joker if he does indeed appear in the third movie. They’re simply too different, and Nicholson is getting old. However, I do recall reading a while back, not long after Ledger’s passing, that Johnny Depp would be willing to take up the part of the Joker in honor of Ledger, should they be so inclined to cast him. I can’t imagine too many other actors in Hollywood today who could come as close to what we’ve seen of Ledger’s performance so far, so I would personally love to see that, if we absolutely must have the Joker in the next movie. What do you guys think?
July 1st, 2008 at 7:19 am
@Joe
I totally agree. I honestly think he would be the perfect replacment. He can do the attitude and the voice I would bet. Put Willy Wonka together with Sweeney Todd and you have the mold for the Joker.
July 1st, 2008 at 7:20 am
I hate myself for using the word replacement.
But, I agree with what Gary Oldman said in his interview about Heath would want someone else to play the role again….someday.
July 1st, 2008 at 7:31 am
When I first heard that Ledger had been chosen to fill the clown shoes, I was disappointed. I’ve always liked his performances, but I just couldn’t see the Joker in him.
As a kid, Batman pretty much ruled my life. When I was around 6 or 7, I remember going to an old movie theater in Mason City, Iowa to watch a matinee of the 60’s comical version of Batman. It seemed like the coolest thing I had ever watched.
I also remember waiting for “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” to start when I viewed a short teaser of Micheal Keaton playing the caped crusader for the first time. The time from seeing that trailer until the movie came out seemed like the longest period I had to wait for anything. In the meantime, I read every Batman book I could get my hands on. I remember after watching “Field of Dreams” walking through the mall with my parents and seeing a anthology of Batman comics in one big paperback and begging my old man to buy it for me (which it turns out that after watching “Field of Dreams” your dad will do about anything you ask). I read the thing from front to back about twenty times.
Now, as a 32 year old adult, it’s like I’m a kid again, waiting impatiently on the edge of my seat.
I’ve gone on slashfilm everyday since this movies been announced. I’ve viewed every snippet of information, good and bad, every set photo, and every trailer. I remember seeing some spy photos of the back of Ledger with his blond hair looking like they spayed it with that punk, hair-spray coloring you can get for $2 at Walgreens and wondering why they were trying to ruin my favorite childhood nemisis. When the first photo of the new Joker was released with the scarred up face replacing the permanent smile always worn by the clown prince of darkness, I started to come around. This wasn’t the Joker I knew. This was a new vision, created by a solid film-making team who knew exactly where they were taking such a storied franchise.
Now when I watch the trailers, seeing Ledger as such a terrorizing psycho, it all makes sense. Ledger’s gone and the Joker is the only thing I see. It’s like he was always supposed to look this way, and all the previous incarnations were just kid’s play.
I got an overwhelming sense of joy watching this… it gave me goosebumps. I feel so happy that this silly comic book has evolved into something so magnificent. Nothing will ever top this.
Sorry for rambling.
July 1st, 2008 at 7:47 am
i agree like i said earlier this is gone far beyond from the comics now and into what i’d dare call a classic
July 1st, 2008 at 7:50 am
@Wesley G
I was wondering the same thing. Even the last scene with the Joker talking to Maroni saying “This town is mine now”… I already saw a clip of him saying “This is my city” instead in the exact same pose.
I hate it when they use clips in trailers they wont actually use in the film itself… but I have faith Nolan chose the best takes for the movie.

Peter what exactly do you do in the industry to get all this info?
July 1st, 2008 at 9:07 am
what is the joker standing in front of in that last scene? and who is he talking to?
July 1st, 2008 at 9:09 am
Heath playing the Joker gives me chills. It’s just incredible.
I hope the Oscar snobs will crawl out of their asses for 5 seconds and consider him for an award.
July 1st, 2008 at 10:02 am
Brodsky. That is way too much… I appreciate your dialogue however. Let’s trim it for the next time!

NEW!!!!!!!!!!!
The Joker just sent text messages to the clowns who have phones:
“Wake up, clown! You have *one hour* to reply to be a part of today’s fun. /operator”
Replying to this they receive:
“Good. Do not reply again, I’ll be in touch”
The text message leads to the new site:

A cool Hero needs a Cool villain . Any movie that people call a classic before they see……is a good fuggin’ movie!!
July 1st, 2008 at 11:58 am
This movie looks like it would be interesting even if there was never a Batman 89′ . Ppl keep hatin’ on Batman 89′ It’s still classic, true it was a shotty script but, how many movies from the 80’s are being compared to 2008 movies! Batman 89′ was good for it’s time given the technology and writers at that point in time and was probably as good as it coulda been 19 years ago, but now it’s time for a more modern Batman for today’s day and age, they are both different approaches, Nicholson was the perfect joker for Tim Burton’s film tone…..and Ledger seems to be perfect for the new real world joker, it’s unfair to compare! Nicholson had those eyebrows, that delivery and the perfect balance of sinister funny and he had his own lil’ terrorisms like taking over the tv broadcasts, killing that news lady and leaving her with a permanent grin and killing those people with the green smoke in the art gallery. Ledger’s Joker seems to be a serial killing anarchist going through chicago blowing shit up and robbing banks either way they are both a credit to taking it away from that campy 196o’s joker ( which was a credit to it’s tone at it’s time) this is just another evolution of the joker character (can’t wait to see the joker of 2019 lol. Batman 89′ had no competition it was the only superheroe movie after superman for years…The new Batman is competing with Spiderman, Hulk, Iron man and all these other movies that are all about the CGI but just like 20 years ago Batman will always be the standard of superhero movies

“Ledger’s gone and the Joker is the only thing I see. It’s like he was always supposed to look this way, and all the previous incarnations were just kid’s play.”
I couldn’t have said it better. And with what King said about a badass hero having a badass villain. OMG yes. I hate when the hero doesn’t have an equal to battle and overcome. This movie is looking better than ever!

July 1st, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Ideas for the third movie anyone? I was thinking the Penguin, and maybe Poison Ivy. The Penguin is the most well-known villain after the Joker, so the need to be doing him soon. And with the supposed death of PROBABLE SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!Rachel, he’ll need a new love interest, and Poison Ivy IS a seductress, so that makes the most sense in my mind. Also, wouldn’t it be cool to see Bruce Wayne have to fight his love? And she’s controlling him or whatever Poison Ivy does? That, my friends, would be very bitchin.
PROBABLE SPOILER ALERT OVER!!!!
July 1st, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Batman 3 should be called “SHADOW OF THE BAT” or something like that. Penguin? SURE but in Nolan’s films how can you justify the umbrella??? would be kinda corny! But it’s what makes the penguin..”THE PENGUIN” so he could be a smaller character like a king pin mafia boss w/ more influence than Carmine Falcone and “Penguin” is his mafia moniker…Oswald “the penguin” Cobblepot the penguin for short. And have him played as a fat BRANDO / Godfather kinda way…..any other ideas?
July 1st, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Domino’s IS very good… what’s wrong with you? try the philly cheese steak!
July 1st, 2008 at 9:29 pm
i keep hearing different opinions on villains for part 3….im just surprised nobody mentions…Bane….so i just though i should throw that out there
July 1st, 2008 at 10:01 pm
VERY, very nice trailer.
but who is that next to the joker in the last scene?
July 1st, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Ledger’s performance will be great , I still think almost any actor can play the joker and it could be good. If Leonardo Dicaprio played he joker it would still be an interesting interpretation.I mean the guy who played Luke skywalker made a great joker for goodness sake!!He wears make-up and goes crazy. THE JOKER is just a great character . It’s no concidence that every person who has played the character has done a great job!
July 2nd, 2008 at 4:59 am
Johnny Depp would be a fine choice <3
July 2nd, 2008 at 6:36 am
Everyone is talking about a possible return of the Joker but isn’t there really only one movie left? One movie would be too soon for the return of any major villain. Even with Heath still alive, with Nolan stating that he only has an interest in making 3 movies, the chances of Joker returning would have been very slim.
July 2nd, 2008 at 11:10 pm
I think that villains like Mr. freeze would kind of get in the way of the batman movie because the whole idea of this new franchise is for us to get to know batman which is what the Burton/Schumacher movies didn’t do. Ra’s al Ghul , Two-face and the Joker seem to be characters that impact Batman’s life on a personal level I don’t know the hell Riddler and penguin or Bane would do that. Especially with 1 movie to go before Nolan and Bale quit the franchise

Don’t get me wrong…I think Depp, Dicaprio, and the other mentioned replacements for the Joker are all great actors but I don’t think any of them should play the Joker in this installment of Batman. Let Ledger be the last Joker from the Dark Knight Series and don’t ruin a perfect legacy left by Leadger as the Joker.
Regardless of what you might think, these other actors will not portray the Joker in the same fashion as Heath Ledger. Besides, if one of these actors did try to play the Joker and didn’t live up to the standards set by Ledger, I think it would not do justice to the Dark Knight Series and would go as far as to say that it would be a black eye on the series. Interested to hear what others think….
July 3rd, 2008 at 6:06 pm
I think when ppl that say other actors shouldn’t play joker are forgetting that “the joker” is bigger than any “one” actor. This is a character that has beein reincarnated over a dozen times in almost 70 years through tv, cartoons, movies, comics and graphic novels. As far as the films Heath ledger is probably great and all but if the joker’s story has to be continued in a 3rd movie then get another actor besides he’s wearing face paint I mean chris angel could play him lol put some face paint on him doesn’t matter. We’re in a culture when the actor is bigger than the character the joker is THE JOKER and Heath Ledger even tho’ he’s good piece of talent is not bigger than “The joker” character.
July 3rd, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Yeah i agree! ppl underestimate the power of the director and writer ( the nolan bros.) Whoever would play the Joker next time which I hope is gordon-levitt (The Look Out is a sublime film check it out) would have to play it as Heath Ledger did with the same voice, mannerisms and passion.
July 3rd, 2008 at 7:47 pm
For those wondering what is the thing burning the joker is standing in front of in the end.
(small spoiler)
It’s a giant pile of money he set on fire. And yes, that is freakin badass.
July 3rd, 2008 at 10:31 pm
“Does it depress you? How alone you really are?” God, him in the shadows saying that gives me chills up my spine.
July 7th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Nicholson is my favorite actor ever. But no one will ever top Ledger in that role. I get to see this for free any time that I want and I get to see it in IMAX before anyone else… I work at a movie theatre.
